Holidays in the Dolomites Region Eggental

Walk through the blossoming world of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site

Here is sustainability more than just a buzz word. It's like legendary figures are still roaming the local villages and the surrounding landscape. There's no doubt that nature is at the heart of your adventure: a holiday in the Dolomites Region Eggental will live up to expectations, if you care about the environment. The region has been bestowed with the highest possible award for sustainable tourism.

What you shouldn't miss

Immerse yourself in a world that values quality experiences at the foot of the Latemar mountain. Observe innovative hut architecture closely. Watch the skis at the observatory. Conquer a summit.

Not far from the provincial capital of Bolzano/Bozen, close to nature and awarded with the Sustainability Label South Tyrol: the green valley nestled between the Latemar and Rosengarten mountain ranges.

Sustainable Eggental/Val d'Ega

Measurable, visible, tangible. Eggental is the first sustainable holiday region in South Tyrol bearing the Sustainability Label South Tyrol. But it's even more astonishing that Eggental is one of the few having achieved the GSTC-recognition. It's been many years now, since local cycles have been on the upswing, bringing producers from the valley and restaurateurs to work closer. These kinds of destinations are actively and successfully involved in socio-economic, ecological and cultural sustainability. For this reason, the Dolomites Region Eggental is considered as a pioneer and internationally acclaimed role model for other holiday regions committed to pursue a more sustainable future.

Villages in the Dolomites Region Eggental

The largest village has no more than 3,000 inhabitants. Eggental's villages are snug, quiet and close to the mountains. They are ideal places for unplugging. Choose a holiday immersed in nature.

Welschnofen/Nova Levante - Karersee/Carezza

The villages of Welschnofen and Karersee are located close by to South Tyrol’s capital city Bolzano/Bozen at the foot of the legendary peaks of the Rosengarten and Latemar massifs. The face of each is reflected in one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps, the Karersee lake . A visit to its enchanting waters is worthwhile on holiday in summer or wintertime. The Carezza Ski area, which averages eight hours of sunlight per day in winter, is the sunniest ski area in South Tyrol, offering 40 km of fun on the slopes for beginners, families and experts. The well-known forest near Welschnofen is the source of tonewood, a wood from which violins in Venice are still made today.

Deutschnofen - Eggen - Obereggen - Petersberg

Situated dramatically between the Latemar and Rosengarten massifs, with views of the striking rock formations of Schlern, Zanggen, Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn, lies the municipality of Deutschnofen. It includes the villages of Eggen/Ega, Obereggen and Petersberg/Monte San Pietro and the main village of Deutschnofen. Holidaymakers here can expect hikes of various degrees of difficulty as well as guided themed hikes, all of which are easily accessible by public transportation. In winter, the Obereggen ski area is a true paradise for skiing, winter hiking, tobogganing at night and cross-country skiing.  South Tyrol’s most popular pilgrimage site , the Maria Weißenstein monastery, is located in the Eggental valley.

Steinegg/Collepietra

Steinegg is situated in the heart of the Rosengarten, Latemar, and Schlern massifs. Its enchanting views of the South Tyrolean Dolomites alone are reason for a visit. The scattered villages of Steinegg, Gummer/San Valentino in Campo, Karneid/Cornedo all'Isarco, Kardaun/Cardano, Blumau/Prato all’Isarco, and Breien/Briè are located between 275 and 1,650 m above sea level. On holidays here, the Burg Karneid castle, the symbol of the municipality, towers over the Eggental valley gorge and can be visited as part of a tour in the summer months. A visit to South Tyrol’s only astronomical observatory “Max Valier” as well as the planetarium in Obergummer are both highly recommended.
