Holidays in Castelfeder

A sunny place of strength perfect for hikes and sipping wine

In the southernmost region of South Tyrol, you’ll get the feeling that the sun shines longer on the villages of Auer, Montan, Neumarkt and Salorno. Wine is the centre of attention in Castelfeder along the South Tyrolean Wine Road: The landscape is characterised by idyllic vineyards where you can sample Pinot Noir, Lagrein, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer in the many inviting wineries, vineyards, restaurants and inns. The ruin mounds of Castelfeder are cloaked in fable and offer visitors a fantastic view over the Etschtal valley. Additional hiking possibilities of various degrees of difficulty can be found in the Trudner Horn Nature Park with its diverse flora and fauna.

Neumarkt/Egna

Small, elegant and charming

A historical gem at the foot of the popular Castelfeder hillside. Due to its strategically favourable location, Neumarkt was already a thriving trade centre in the Middle Ages. Today it's the cultural and economic hub of the South Tyrolean lowlands. Neumarkt encloses the fascinating hamlets of Mazon, Vill and Laag. Not by chance, this picturesque village is deemed to be one of the most beautiful places in Italy, namely recognized within the "Borghi più belli d'Italia". The historic downtown with its contiguous arches, stately residences and splendid courtyards is well worth a visit. Cobbled alleys, sparkling fountains and lush gardens all create a charming town painting. Discover Neumarkt and Slow Life at your own pace. Chat with the locals in one of the many small wine bars or at the many gourmet festivals. Regain energy while hiking in the surrounding area.

Look around you in Castelfeder

During your holiday in the Castelfeder region, discover small villages enclosed by meadows and vineyards. Tradition and history are rooted in these places.

Montan/Montagna

Take a break in a Natural park

Lush orchards and vineyards: this is where the best Pinot Noir in the region was born. Near the Trudner Horn Nature park, the 12th century Enna Castle stands majestically on a hilltop. Montan, a small but diverse village, invites you to take some time off and enjoy a variety of activities on a scenic plateau.

Auer/Ora

The wine village

Auer is peculiar for its valley floor. Located at 25 metres above sea level, its territory is rich in vineyards, but also cobbled alleys, romatic squares, hitoric farms and stately residences. Wherever you look, farming families carry on the cultivation of the land and preserve our cultural heritage with great dedication.

Salorno/Salurn

Gateaway to the south

At the foot of steep cliffs, the 'Salurner Klause', and even more up, the Salorno Castle. Salorno lies on the German-Italian language border and is the southernmost village in the region. The fascinating architecture has left traces of a thriving trading centre. The old meets the new, and the Italian lightheartedness is intertwined with the South Tyrolean tradition.
