Mountain tour to the Rauchkofel in Prettau/Predoi

From Prettau/Predoi centre (1496 m) in the direction of Pension Knappenhof and continue along the mountain and forest road in the direction of Ameiser Wald. Soon the forest road branches off into path. no. 16 B, which leads steeply through the forest until you finally reach the forest road again. Remain on the road until you reach the Waldner Alm (2068 m). From the Waldner Alm, take trail nos. 16 B and 15 A in the direction of the Waldner See lake (2332 m), from the Waldner See lake continue to the right on trail no. 15 A until you reach a fork. Turn left here, up a steep rock-strewn slope until you cross the Lausitzer Höhenweg (high route). After a few minutes' walk on the Lausitzer Höhenweg in a left-hand direction, you reach the fork towards the summit. The trail now continues on slabs and boulders, passing a hollow, zigzagging uphill to the left of the southern ridge of the Rauchkofel. Some steeper passages and some easy climbing passages follow. On the left below the pre-peak you reach a saddle, here you go down left to a snow field and then climb the summit of the Rauchkofel from the west. Walking time approx. 5.30 h. Requirements: good physical condition. For sure-footed, experienced mountain hikers.
