The apple trail

Schenna/Scena, Meran/Merano and environs
from center

The origins and myths, customs and history, cultivation, combating of pests, harvesting, beliefs and superstitions: since just recently, everything that there is to know about apples can be discovered on this circular trail through Schenna’s sun-kissed landscape with its magnificent views. Through informative texts and interactive displays the Apple Trail gives hikers a closer insight into Schenna's fruit-growing area and its history. Covering a distance of 3.7 km and with a manageable elevation gain of 180 m, the Apple Trail is suitable as an entertaining hike for young and old alike, on which not only beehives and apple wind chimes can be found, but also farm shops where you can try home-made products.

Itinerary

From the starting point of the “bacchus& pomina” themed trail in the centre of Schenna, the Apple Trail leads along street Wiesenweg behind the hotel Schennerhof until the street Verdinserstrasse just before Pizzeria Petermann. Here, it continues towards the Auelerhof, then past the Lothhof and Krebishof, up into the parish of St. Georgen, which offers a marvellous view of Merano. From here the trail leads downhill to Rodelstein and along St. Georgener Strasse back to the starting point.

The apple trail is perfect for families – although they are not suitable for pushchairs.

For anyone who wants to, it is perfectly possible to hike both themed trails in one go. The Apple Trail and the Wine Trail are connected via the Rodelstein - Kampfl Kreuz - Schenna lido loop. This section is 1.6 km long and takes approximately 20 minutes longer to complete. Both trails are perfect for families – although they are not suitable for pushchairs.
