Grohmann Monument

On the trail to San Giacomo there is a monument in memory of the Austrian mountaineer Paul Grohmann (1838-1908), who managed several first ascents in the Dolomites, including the Sassolungo (1869), the Marmolada (1864), the Cima Grande (1869) and the Tofana di Roze (1864). In 1875, the peak Punta Grohmann in the Sassolungo Group was named after him.

Accessible by the bus line 350 from Bolzano or Bressanone to the S. Antonio square.
Accessible by the bus line 172 from Castelrotto to the S. Antonio square.
Accessible by the bus line 351 from Chiusa, Laion, S. Pietro to the S. Antonio square.
Timetables and travel information are available in the local tourist office in Val Gardena.
Directions
The path stats from the parish church along the Luis Trenker Promenade until the hous “Bera Lui”. Right behind it, on the playground, turn left and there rises a path that brings you to the Grohmann street. At the curve, close to the Nis farm you reach the beginning of the Grohmann trail, you go through shady valleys and pretty meadow slopes that takes you to the monument.
