A challenging hike with a stunning view of Villnöss/Funes valley, the Geisler mountains and the surrounding Dolomites. The last part beneath the summit consists of a via ferrata on which belaying with a climbing harness is recommended.
• Hiking time: 3h 45min • Trail numbers: 25, 32, 35, 4, 4B • The hike starts at the car park Zans (1680 m). Walk on the gradually ascending trail no. 25 and then no. 32 alongside the Kaserill stream until you reach hut Kaserillalm (1920 m). Then continue on the slightly steeper trail no. 32 which leads to hut Schlüterhütte (2297 m). Behind the alpine hut, follow trail no. 35 to Kreuzkofeljoch (2340 m) where you turn onto trail no. 4 continuing on level path to Peitlerscharte (2357 m). At the wayside cross, turn right onto trail no. 4B which leads in serpentines to the access to the via ferrata. An easy via ferrata which is equipped with a steel rope leads to the summit of the Peitlerkofel (2875 m). Descent as ascent or the shorter variant through the Peitlerscharte to Würzjoch. • Alternatively, you can hike to the lower peak of Peitlerkofel (2813 m). Slightly below the access of the via ferrata, this trail starts to the left and leads to the lower peak without vie ferratas.
Through the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley to Klausen/Chiusa; turn into Villnöss/Funes valley and drive to Zans (car park subject to charge)
