Follow our tips to reach your destination safe and sound, be it if your journey is long or short, or if you’re driving a car or a camper. Read below for an overview of up-to-date travel information and advice regarding the most important motorways, road tolls, and e-vehicle charging stations. Safe travels!

Travelling by car – all you need to know

Since September 2024, some stretches of one of the main motorways that drivers use to travel to and from South Tyrol have been closed. These partial closures could impact your travel. We advise you to regularly visit this page for up-to-date information if you plan to drive on the Reschenpass state road and the Lueg bridge on the Austrian side of the Brenner border or take the local Pustertal/Val Pusteria train service to Franzensfeste/Fortezza and Bruneck/Brunico.

You do when travelling in Austria. You can purchase the Digitale Vignette  online before your trip as well as at gas stations, newsagents, and the ASFINAG toll booths in Austria.

To save time at the toll booths, we recommend you also purchase the Brenner Pass Streckenmaut online, allowing you to drive through the clearly signed gates.

Yes. To save time and avoid queues at the toll booths, purchase a Telepass from Tolltickets. They will then send you the Telepass or you can retrieve it from a Pickup Station.

Yes. Drivers in Italy either need to use winter tyres or apply winter chains to their tyres at all times between 15 November and 15 April. The weather can change suddenly, especially in the mountains, so preparation is key.

Use Google Maps to plan your trip in advance and look up the current traffic situation. This will ensure a smooth drive and a laid-back start to your holiday.
