Flying to South Tyrol

On cloud nine – direct connections to Bolzano/Bozen

Flying to South Tyrol is comfortable and quick – but what’s more, the journey features mesmerising views over the Alps. Bolzano/Bozen airport has direct flights to and from London, Berlin, Hamburg and other European cities. Located in the heart of Europe, you can reach South Tyrol easily also thanks to other international airports which are well connected to the region such as Munich, Innsbruck or Verona. You can opt for excellent train connections from the airports or book a shuttle service which will take you directly to your holiday destination. If only everything else in life were as carefree and easy as this!

Bolzano airport

No connecting flights needed

Bolzano airport lies in the southern part of Bolzano, the region’s capital. By flying, you’ll already get a preview of what your holiday will feel like – as the plane prepares to land, you’ll enjoy the view of the city nestled between vineyards, orchards, and the majestic summits of the South Tyrolean mountains. Your downtime in the region will start with views over this unique landscape.

Sky Alps offers regular, direct flights between Bolzano and cities such as London, Berlin, Hamburg, and Copenhagen. Reaching the city centre from the airport is child’s play – simply hop on bus 10A or 10B which run regularly to Bolzano train and bus station in a journey lasting 15 minutes. You can also grab a taxi from the designated area outside the airport or train station.

Other airports

International Verona Valerio Catullo airport is around 150 km away from Bolzano/Bozen.

  • Hop onto the Aerobus 199 and head to Verona Porta Nuova train station – just a 15-minute drive from Verona airport. From here, daily Trenitalia trains travel to South Tyrol every hour.
  • For a smooth trip, use the DB/ÖBB 2-in-1 ticket to combine the Aerobus 199 and train. Easily purchase the ticket online at DB, in all ticket offices of the Deutsche Bahn AG or at the counter in Verona airport’s departure area. The counter features the DB logo and is opposite the check-in desks.
  • Südtirol Bus is a shuttle service which runs several times a day between the airport and South Tyrol. It stops at countless locations in the region, meaning you can reach your accommodation regardless of where you’re staying in South Tyrol.
  • If you prefer to travel in comfort, book the Airport Line1 VIP shuttle service to Bruneck/Brunico and its surroundings.

The Venice Marco Polo airport is around 270 km away from Bolzano/Bozen and around 200 km from Bruneck/Brunico.

  • Hop onto the ATVO and ACTV express buses to easily reach Venezia Mestre and Venezia Santa Lucia train stations. Trenitalia trains depart from both stations many times a day, travelling via Verona to South Tyrol.
  • Furthermore, FlixBus offers daily connections from Venice Marco Polo airport via Verona to South Tyrol.
  • For guests wanting to travel to the eastern part of South Tyrol, they’ll be spoilt for choice: they can select from Cortina ExpressFlixBus or ATVO (no. 29) to travel to Cortina d'Ampezzo. From here, they can use local public transport to reach Toblach/Dobbiaco, Innichen/San Candido or Bruneck.
  • Between July and September and between December and March, Cortina Express offers daily, return connections from Venice airport to Alta Badia.
  • If you prefer to travel in comfort, book the Airport Line1 VIP shuttle service to Bruneck and its surroundings.

Treviso Antonio Canova airport is around 190 km from Bolzano/Bozen and Bruneck/Brunico.

  • You can take the Marconi Express monorail train to Bologna train station – the journey only lasts a few minutes! From here, TrenitaliaDB , and ÖBB run several times a day to Bolzano, Brixen/Bressanone, and Sterzing/Vipiteno.

There are two airports in Milan - Milano Malpensa and Milano Linate, which are respectively 320 and 270 km away from Bolzano/Bozen.

  • Milano Malpensa is served by excellent public transport links; it also has a direct shuttle to Milano Centrale train station. Milano Linate also has shuttle services and other connections to Milano Centrale train station. Trenitalia trains depart from here many times a day, travelling via Verona to South Tyrol.
  • The Südtirol Bus shuttle service organises regular transfers from both airports. It stops at countless locations in South Tyrol, meaning you can reach your accommodation regardless of where you’re staying in the region.
  • If you prefer to travel in comfort, book the Airport Line1 VIP shuttle service to Bruneck/Brunico and its surroundings.

You can land here too

Innsbruck airport is around 120 km north of Bolzano/Bozen and is served by excellent train and shuttle connections.

  • Bus F will take you directly to Innsbruck train station every 15 and 30 minutes. The trip lasts around 20 minutes. From the train station, there are ÖBB train connections to South Tyrol every 30 or 60 minutes.
  • The Südtirol Bus shuttle service organises numerous, daily transfers from Innsbruck airport. It stops at countless locations in South Tyrol, meaning you can reach your accommodation regardless of where you’re staying in the region.
  • If you prefer to travel in comfort, book the Airport Line1 VIP shuttle service to Bruneck/Brunico and its surroundings.

The international Franz-Josef-Strauß Munich airport is around 300 km north of Bolzano/Bozen. Countless service provides offer transfers from the airport to South Tyrol.

  • The public transport network will take you to Munich’s main train station (Hauptbahnhof) form the airport. From here, countless, daily, direct DB trains  will take you to South Tyrol.
  • The Südtirol Bus shuttle service organises regular transfers from both airports. It stops at countless locations in South Tyrol, meaning you can reach your accommodation regardless of where you’re staying in the region.
  • FlixBus also has countless, daily direct connections from Munich airport to South Tyrol. Upon arrival, you can also book the Südtirol Bus shuttle service to take you directly to your accommodation and back to the airport at the end of your holiday.

Stuttgart airport is around 422 km north of Bolzano/Bozen.

  • Stuttgart airport is connected via public transport to Stuttgart’s main train station (Hauptbahnhof). From here, there are numerous, daily train connections to Munich. From Munich, take DB  trains for direct connections to Bolzano.
  • FlixBus  serves Stuttgart airport with numerous, daily connections to South Tyrol.

Car rental

Do you like travelling individually? You can book a hire car directly at Bolzano airport. The offices of car hire companies Europcar and Hertz are located in the terminal. This gives you flexibility and allows you to discover the most beautiful places in South Tyrol at your own pace. Not directly at the airport, but just a few metres away, there is a car sharing provider AlpsGo.

Südtirol Transfer

With the South Tyrol Transfer, almost all accommodation in South Tyrol is easily accessible from the long-distance bus stops in Bolzano, Merano, Chiusa, Varna and Vipiteno. You can book the South Tyrol Transfer several times a day as a shared shuttle from the aforementioned mobility hubs to your accommodation or opt for an individual transfer.

The dense network of public transport will get you to your destination quickly and reliably - whether you want to reach towns, villages or excursion destinations. With regular connections, which often run every half hour, you can easily reach even remote places.
