Nice mountain hike with great views over the Puster Valley and the mountains of the Rieserferner-Ahrn nature park. Suitable only for trained hikers, sure-footedness is required.
In Maiern/Masseria, at the end of the Ridnauntal valley, starts the Path no. 27, first through the mountain forest and then up to meadows. In about 1 ½ hours you reach the mountain pasture Prischeralm (2160m). From there rise up in not steep serpentines for about 1 hour to the pass Maurerjoch (2511m). From the pass continue over the western ridge on a climb to the summit for about ½ hour. Surefootedness and no fear of heights necessary!
From the parking lot at Brenner/Brennero we take the trail nr. 1 to the Stein/Sasso mountain pasture and the mountain pasture Sattelalm. Then to the peak of the Sattelberg/Monte Sasso and the beautiful summit cross. Descent on the same way.
A mountain offering marvellous views, partly accessible by cable car… The Rauchkofel is one of the most beautiful mountains from which you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view over all of the Ahrntal valley and the Dolomites in the far distance. Presumably, its name derives from its rough and rocky shape („rauer Kofel“) and has nothing to do with the term „smoke.“ A great deal of the difference in altitude can be covered using the Klausberg cable car. An easy climb over blocks of rock leads to the summit cross. Sure footedness and no fear of heights are absolutely necessary for this tour, otherwise the Klausbergjoch below should be your final destination. The area around the peak is quite exposed, so you should not start the tour in unstable weather conditions. All in all, the Rauchkofel or Jochkofel is a very popular mountain for hiking.
