Region Dolomitów Eggental

Start right in the charming village of Steinegg and follow a beautiful – and at times moderately challenging – circular trail through forests, meadows and scenic viewpoints. The route covers 9.7 km and around 525 metres of elevation, leading you to romantic spots like the Spitzköfele, where breathtaking views of the Sciliar and Rosengarten await.

Along the way, you'll come across the lovingly restored wayside shrine “Ölgartner Bild” and finally arrive at the cosy Wiedenhof farm inn. A play area for kids and a petting zoo make it perfect for families – and a delicious break with regional delicacies is guaranteed.

The loop back to Steinegg is easy to manage – and the starting point is well connected by public transport or reachable directly from the village centre.

From Welschnofen | Nova Levante, the trail leads below the imposing Rosengarten | Catinaccio to the Latemar, also known as the shape-shifter. The pale mountain shows itself in different shapes depending on the location, and the destination of this hike is the only managed refuge hut in the middle of this quiet rocky scenery. The hut is also called the "Torre di Pisa hut" because of a striking, sloping pinnacle about 20 m high, reminiscent of the leaning tower of Pisa.

This hike offers a rich blend of nature, history, and city charm. Starting in the peaceful village of Deutschnofen, the trail leads through quiet forests and across panoramic ridges with stunning views of the Dolomites and the valley below. Along the way, scenic spots like Rotenstein and Rotwand provide unforgettable photo opportunities and moments to pause.

The adventure continues in Kohlern, a small mountain village above Bolzano, where a special highlight awaits: the world’s oldest aerial cable car. In just a few minutes, it gently glides down to the South Tyrolean capital, offering sweeping views and a historic ride. Once in Bolzano, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the old town, with its arcades, cafés, and shops. The return journey is easy and comfortable by public bus. This hike not only offers impressive views of the Dolomite peaks Rosengarten | Catinaccio and Latemar, but also a glimpse into the history of Welschnofen | Nova Levante. The path leads through a varied landscape of dense forests, meadows, and open slopes, with wide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains along the way. One of the highlights is the small pilgrimage chapel of Lengeria, built in 1952 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary as a token of gratitude for protection during World War II. Shortly afterward, you reach the “Wolfsgrube” (wolf pit), where the last wolves in the area were trapped in the 18th century. Continuing toward the Hagner Alm hut, the route passes several traditional farms and repeatedly opens onto clearings with breathtaking views of Rosengarten | Catinaccio and Latemar. The Hagner Alm is renowned for its excellent cheese production and makes a perfect stop for a relaxing break.

This leisurely hike starts at the Frommer Alm hut at the foot of the Rosengarten | Catinaccio and leads along pleasant forest roads through woodland and small meadow clearings to the wide Frin meadows. From there, the trail continues to the legendary Lake Carezza, whose colors have enchanted visitors for generations. In addition to Lake Carezza, the idyllic Frin meadows and the suspension bridge built in 2018 are among the special highlights of this tour.

Golf II

For those seeking a leisurely full-day hike at lower elevations, without the use of lifts, this route is a rewarding option. It begins in Welschnofen | Nova Levante and leads through tranquil woodland as well as along forest roads and paths up to the Nigerpass | Passo Nigra and further to the Messnerjoch hut. At the top, the ascent is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Rosengarten | Catinaccio, while homemade specialties and delicious cakes invite you to enjoy a well-deserved break.

Learn about flora, fauna, agriculture, and forestry in a playful way on the new “Kirchsteig” adventure trail in Deutschnofen. Locals and visitors, young and old, will enjoy exciting stations like a listening island, a telescope, a wildlife memory game, and a mill wheel. Latemar.Natura is a varied circular hike that combines breathtaking alpine scenery, interactive experiences and family-friendly exploration. Starting from the top station of the Oberholz chairlift, the trail leads to the stunning Latemar.360° viewing platform, offering an unforgettable panorama of the surrounding Dolomites. From there, the route continues across meadows and through open forests to the cozy Mayrl Alm, perfect for a relaxing break. Along the newly renovated return path, hikers of all ages will discover engaging nature stations that invite you to learn and explore the environment in a playful way. A perfect hike for families and nature lovers who want to experience the Dolomites with all senses.

This circular trail takes you on a journey into the fascinating world of bees. Along the family-friendly path, differnt stations bring the connection between bees, forests, and humans to life. The trail winds through dense woodlands and blooming meadows, always accompanied by the hum of these busy pollinators.

A special highlight is the Beekeeping House, where you can take a close look at the bustling activity inside a beehive through an observation comb. See firsthand how bees work, communicate, and produce honey – a unique insight into their incredible world.

A hands-on experience for all ages, offering knowledge and a deep connection to nature.

Please note: There are no places to stop for refreshments on this short circular walk, but there are several picnic areas. One option for refreshments is the Untereggerhof inn. This can be reached by taking a short detour from the beekeeper's house towards the observatory and is not directly on the tour route. Walking time: 30 minutes (1.5 km).

Several cozy mountain huts offer delicious regional food and relaxing breaks with panoramic views. This hike combines outdoor fun, nature discovery, and quality family time – all set against the majestic backdrop of the Latemar mountains.

This longer but easy hike leads from the Nigerpass | Passo Nigra along wide forest roads to the idyllic Hagner Alm hut. The path is suitable for strollers and perfect for families who want to enjoy a relaxed walk through woods and sunny clearings. Along the way, you are rewarded again and again with breathtaking views of Latemar and Rosengarten | Catinaccio – so close you could almost touch them. At the Hagner Alm hut, a cozy stop awaits you with traditional alpine cuisine. If you’re looking to enjoy nature away from the hustle and bustle, crowds, and traffic, this tour is just right for you.

This leisurely hike leads below the Rosengarten | Catinaccio on a pleasant and flat trail through forest and flowering mountain meadows to the Ochsenhütte hut. Homemade South Tyrolean specialities and delicious cakes can be enjoyed on the beautiful sun terrace with mountain views, while the children let off steam on the playground.

This leisurely family hike to the Stadl Alm hut leads along the Templ path through the idyllic Latemar Forest and delights with a legendary view of the Dolomite peaks Rosengarten and Latemar. Once at the destination, both young and old are welcomed by numerous farm animals, a playground, and hearty dishes made from seasonal and homegrown products.

The cave dwelling "Mortner Gufl" is located on the old carriage road, which at that time connected Steinegg|Collepietra with Kardaun|Cardano and Bozen|Bolzano.  About 500 m from the farm Mortner in the direction of Kardaun|Cardano, there is an extensive, flat square with a thick stone slab hanging over it, as if it wanted to provide a protective roof for the little place. It is said that a hermit, the "Mortner Hias", lived here during the First World War. He even set up a farm oven in this natural dwelling and walled the place up. The hermit wove baskets here. During the Second World War, this place was used as an air-raid shelter for the inhabitants of the nearby farm Mortner. Some remains of the wall can still be discovered and admired today.
In 1951, there is also said to have been an apparition of the Virgin Mary at this special place.
A descriptive board on site tells of these extraordinary occurrences at the cave dwelling "Mortner Gufl".

The return is via the same route, totaling approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes for the round trip.

Important note: There are no refreshment stops along the entire route. However, at the start and end point in Steinegg|Collepietra, you will find several restaurants, cafés, and two shops.

Large, informative panels explain the surrounding mountains, making this a fun and educational stop for children and curious hikers.
