How is the bark beetle influencing the forest ecosystem? What are the consequences of the Vaia storm on our woods? Are the effects of the bark beetle solely negative? How can we contribute to the health and recovery of our forests? Face to face with Roland, an expert forest guide who has closely followed the aftermath of the Vaia storm that struck our woods in 2018. We are in the 'Bosch de Ciaulunch', near the Campolongo pass. Walking through the forest with Roland, guests have the chance to witness the storm's impact on the forests and learn how the proliferation of the bark beetle is affecting the woodland ecosystem, finding ideal conditions for development within the habitat of the fallen trees. Roland's passion for nature is highly infectious, and it is in this way that the guest, armed with the information provided, gains a comprehensive understanding of the entire forest ecosystem, including the different types of trees present and their significance for biodiversity and forest health. Knowledge, as it is well known, is the most effective tool for the protection of any territory. Why is it essential to mow the meadows, and what techniques are used? What would be the consequences of not maintaining the meadows on the landscape and the environment, also in relation to tourism? How is the hay mowed during the different stages of summer, and why is it so important for agricultural life and also for tourism? How can we, as guests, contribute to the respect and preservation of these precious agricultural ecosystems? We are in the Murin area (which means 'mill' in Ladin) in Badia. In the company of Gottfried, an experienced farmer who is a guardian of Ladin agricultural tradition, you walk through the meadows he tends to. And it is from here that a truly exhilarating and important experience begins: Gottfried unveils the art and science of mowing, sharing with the guest the significance and necessity of this practice, explaining the various methods used, the timing for mowing and how each type of cut influences the subsequent use of the hay. It will be easier to understand how the lack of care for mountain meadows and pastures can cause not only aesthetic damage but also environmental harm. The guest thus learns the importance of respecting the meadows, avoiding unnecessary trampling, and recognizing the hard work of farmers who, season after season, take care of these vital spaces for the mountain ecosystem. The activity concludes with a guided visit to the farmhouse Lüch da Murin: here, the guest can observe mountain agricultural life up close. So, before Easter, on Friday, the 14th of April, he leaves Vienna in the company of his friend and pupil Sandor Ferenczi and makes a quick tour lasting just six days to find a suitable place around Trento and Bolzano. He returns to Vienna the following Thursday and his research produces excellent results in the form of Ritten/Renon near Bolzano. Consequently, on the 9th of July, Freud sets off from Karlsbad, where he was staying to recover from a bout of 'American colitis', and joins his family at Klobenstein. This is where the Freuds celebrate their silver wedding anniversary, on 14th September - the enjoyment of their holiday thus being enhanced by love and affection. The focus of this special event at the Steinegg Museum is the ancient and valuable knowledge around the power of plants & herbs. During a short tour of the museum, visitors get to know the rooms of our ancestors, where knowledge about herbs was also practised. The lovingly furnished rooms, chambers and workrooms faithfully reflect the life of our ancestors. Afterwards, our instructor Tanja Rassler, practitioner of new alternative healing methods according to Gottfried Hochgruber, will introduce you to the secrets of the power of herbs. The focus will be on root plants with their various uses and healing powers - all under the motto: "The power that comes from the earth". A workshop will show how to make a masterwort root gel that can be used to treat cartilage formation and undefined pain as well as gastritis. On October 12, 2024, on Romanesque Day, you will have the opportunity to experience the mystical world of the Romanesque period in South Tyrol during free guided tours of 31 impressive cultural sites along the "Alpine Romanesque Road". From Burgeis to Neumarkt and Innichen, churches, castles, chapels and monasteries open their doors on this special day to present the art and cultural treasures of this period. The castle chapel at Hocheppan Castle also invites all interested parties on this day. This chapel is considered one of the most important Romanesque monuments to art in South Tyrol and impresses with its valuable frescoes. The frescoes, which were only fully uncovered in 1926, date back to the first decade of the 13th century. In addition to religious motifs, rare secular depictions can also be found here, such as a hunting scene on the outer wall. The frescoes of the foolish virgins and the dumpling eater - the first pictorial evidence of Tyrolean dumplings - are particularly well-known.
