    Tiergartenspitze peak
Graun im Vinschgau/Curon Venosta, Vinschgau/Val Venosta
A hike to a striking, but easy to climb mountain over 3,000m on the south side of the Langtaufers valley. The starting point for this hike is the Maseben mountain hut. Follow from there the path signposted no. 19, across stony terrain and over a grassy old moraine wall, then straight up until you reach the west-facing hillside, then over stone slabs directly up to a flat mountain hollow. Follow the signposted trail over steep rocks up to the summit of the Tiergartenspitze peak. If you are not too late, you can observe the inhabitants: groundhogs, golden eagles and chamois. The descent follows the same route as the one going up.
Alternative: If you want to start this hike from the hamlet of Kappl, walk along the forest road to the path no. 19/19A to the Maseben mountain hut or use the shuttle service (only during winter).

Mountain Tour to the peak "Hofmannspitze" (3,113 m)
    Ratschings/Racines, Meran/Merano and environs

Starting from the parking lot behind the Timmelsbrücke bridge on the right-hand side of the road, head north into the main valley as far as the Timmelsalm mountain pasture (30). From there, cross the bridge and continue in a north-easterly direction on the left-hand side of the valley until you reach Unterkrumpwasser (an open plateau, traversed by the meandering Passer river). Remain on the left side of the high valley and proceed further northeast. Then follow the steep path up and over the hill, revealing the Schwarzsee lake (30) beyond.

Continue northeast along the western shoreline of the Großer Schwarzsee lake, across the grassland as far as the Schwarzwandscharte ridge, to the start of the glacier (30). Then, follow the narrow but negotiable trail southeast over a rocky ridge up to the Hofmannspitze summit.

The way back from the Hofmannspitze follows the same route in reverse. From the Schwarzwandscharte glacier return to the Schwarzsee lake, and then to the Timmelsbrücke bridge (30), past the Timmelsalm mountain pasture.

Hike to the Zuckerhütl Summit (3,507 m) (A)
    Ratschings/Racines, Meran/Merano and environs

A high mountain climb across the glacier and over the rocks

This two-day trip is recommended only for those with a head for heights (not for sufferers of vertigo), sure-footed, sturdy climbers with experience in glacier and rock-climbing. Under no circumstances should anyone attempt to climb the flat Schwarzwandscharte wind gap without ropes. Right from the outset there are hidden crevasses under the snow, some of which run in the direction of travel. Some sections of the Wilder Pfaff are rated II on the Difficulty Level Scale (UIAA). The gap below the Zuckerhütl summit is very steep and at times smooth and slippery (note: ice axes and crampons are essential). An experienced guide is highly advisable on this high mountain hiking adventure.

    Weissee Peak
Graun im Vinschgau/Curon Venosta, Vinschgau/Val Venosta

Soon after the chapel of the Weißkugelhütte mountain hut at 2,542 m, the “Richter Steig” path leads in eastern direction to the panoramic southern slope comfortably into the valley up to the mountain and ice barrier of the Vernagl slopes. Here, the slightly exposed climb (Attention in case of ice!) leads northward via partially secured passages over rock up to the Gepatschferner glacier, past the imposing glacier sceneries of the ice rifts.  This is were you will need your crampons and rope. After a steeper ramp - potentially tricky when the surface is covered with bare ice - you reach the upper flat ground of the mighty Gepatschferner: Towards your left (northward), there is a slight ascent not far from the left rocky crest in the direction of Weißseespitze; whereas straight on (eastward) leads to the Brandenburg House. We therefore climb up the moderately rugged, slightly ascending terrain to the Weißseespitze: After the 2 km long “Gletscherhaatscher”, we suddenly find ourselves on the flat cap of the Weißseespitze.

On the old, secret smuggler trails at the border

The upper leg of this trip is only for those with a head for heights and sure-footed climbers with good hiking boots. The exposed, rocky section is very steep in parts, and crossing the precipitous gullies can also be slippery and treacherous. Snow can also be found at the top of the steep gullies even until late July and under such circumstances, hiking to the Königsjoch ridge should be postponed.

A beautiful mountain hike, which requires you to be sure footed and with a head for heights. The hike starts at the Maseben mountain hut from where you follow the path signposted no. 18. From Maseben turn left and arrive at two small lakes. Walk past the lakes to the right of the river towards the Valbenair valley. At the end of the ski-lift there is a wide-open area. After a while, approach the summit ridge and the terrain becomes noticeably steeper. In the middle of the northern flank, the path goes up to Mitterloch Spitze peak.
