The wolf is back! - A human exhibition The return of the wolf raises old and new questions: How much wilderness can the densely populated alpine region tolerate? What does this mean for our relationship with the wolf? How does the predator's presence change our landscapes, herds, and ourselves? The current wolf debate shows that it is not just about the wolf. This exhibition, curated by the Alpine Museum of Switzerland, looks at people and their relationship with the wolf. It shows the situation up to 2017, with people who deal with this animal by profession recounting their experiences. Many parallels can be drawn between Switzerland, which is characterized by an alpine landscape, and South Tyrol. In comparison, there are data from South Tyrol and the latest information on the wolf situation from the Office for Wildlife Management in South Tyrol.

Guided tour of the Niederlana parish church with the Schnatterpeck altar. A first church was built on this site in the early Middle Ages on Roman foundations. In 1492, the present late Gothic wall pillar church was consecrated. Josef Weingartner counts it among the "most beautiful Gothic churches in the country" in his "Art Monuments of South Tyrol". The Gothic winged altar from the workshop of Hans Schnattpereck is a work of art that is known far beyond the borders of the province. In addition to the permanent exhibitions ‘The discovery of Ötzi’ and ‘Primitive? Skilled!’, the archeoParc in Madonna di Senales presents a small photo exhibition every year in the museum’s cafeteria. This year’s edition features works by the young hunter Simone Santer: photographs of animals, plants, and landscapes. In addition to the permanent exhibitions ‘The Ötzi Find’ and ‘Flora, Fauna, Man’, the archeoParc in Unser Frau presents a small special exhibition every year. This year's edition is called ‘Glaciers and Me’ and is dedicated to two artistic positions on the topic to mark the Year of Glaciers: paintings by Jessie Pitt (Melbourne/Längenfeld) and photographs by Daniela Brugger (Karthaus) together with texts by glaciologist Georg Kaser (Karthaus) invite visitors to discover and reflect. The special exhibition to mark the 800th anniversary of the Castle of Taufers focuses on a medieval and social theme: the relationship between the nobility and the peasantry. The exhibition, curated by Marie Rubner and the Südtiroler Burgeninstitut, can be seen at Castle Taufers from April 18 to November 2, 2025.
The beginning of the 16th century was characterized by social, economic and religious changes. Serfdom severely restricted the rights of the lower classes and forced them to pay additional taxes to aristocratic feudal lords and the clergy. In 1525, the call for equality, justice and freedom grew louder and louder. Discontent soon turned violent and the Peasants’ War broke out like wildfire in Central Europe. 2025 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the peasant revolt. To mark the anniversary, the exhibition “500 Years: Peasants‘ War - Striving for Freedom” allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of this period.

Born from the collaboration of Palais Mamming Museum with Brunnenburg and the Merano Academy, the exhibition tells the story of a woman, the work of a poetess, Mary de Rachewiltz, who turns 100 this year. The story of a life woven with the simple everyday and the intellectual richness of literary circles, universities, publishing houses and libraries in Europe and America, friendships with writers, poets and artists. It is the story of a woman who knew how to be both “peasant” and “princess,” who knew how to speak, dream, and compose in Tyrolean dialect, Italian and English. The sugar maples at the entrance of the museum, a gift from her father/poet years before, symbolize Mary’s Dream, a dream that connects the lush rural world to that of literature and poetry.

In the second half of the 19th century, running a business, practicing a skilled trade, or, least of all, being an alpinist was far from easy if you were a woman. The period between 1865 and 1914 saw numerous wives of photographers active in mountaineering and mountain photography, and it would not be possible to include them all in this exhibition. Instead, four women photographers were selected to represent the group in this exhibition. Among them, Elizabeth Whitshed Main takes a special place as an outstanding photographer, alpinist, and the founder of winter alpinism in general and winter tourism in the region of Engadin, Switzerland, in particular. The exhibition also features works by Gertrude Bell, Eleonore Noll-Hasenclever, and Una Cameron, three distinguished alpinists, travel journalists, and women’s rights activists. South Tyrolean artist Elisabeth Oberrauch is well-known for her artworks made from handmade paper. In this exhibition, she displays highlights from her previous work and presents new creations inspired by pharmaceutical and medical themes. Her artistic works accompany and support the Brixen Pharmacy Museum on its journey towards a harmonious combination of architecture, art and pharmacy.

The combined guided tours of the entire museum and the cathedral complex (cathedral, cloister and baptistery) take place alternately in German and Italian from Tuesday to Friday (except on public holidays). Curated by Frida Carazzato with the collaboration of the Fondazione Bonotto, through the curatorial advice of Patrizio Peterlini, the exhibition uses the museum collection to explore the cultural legacy and artistic vision of Francesco Conz. This important figure, who worked with Fluxus, Visual Poetry and Concrete Poetry artists, played a decisive role in disseminating these artistic practices in Italy and abroad. The title of the exhibition is taken from a work by Gerhard Rühm, a visual artist, musician, poet and co-founder of the Wiener Gruppe, and one of the first artists with whom Francesco Conz began producing large-format editions. The “You and the Night and the Music” title stimulates reflections on the relationship between art, time and the links between artists, collectors and museum institutions. The conjunction “and” in the artwork becomes, in the title of the exhibition, a metaphor for both the network of cultural connections that has given rise to one of the main hubs in the Museion collection and the figure of Conz, whose passion bound together artistic and human experiences. A number of collectors and art critics, in fact, have played a fundamental role in the history of the museum collection. People like Paolo Della Grazia, who donated his collection to the museum in 2020, Luigi Bonotto, Henry Martin and many others, have helped to create an artistic heritage that is now an essential reference point for the study of neo-avant-gardes. Thanks to their activities, Museion has been able to enrich its collection with a body of works that bears witness to the value of publishing and screenprint production as a means of disseminating contemporary art. The exhibition is located in the central area of Museion Passage, a space designed to host dynamic installations that are open to the public. The central and corner sections – the latter can be visited until November 16 2025 – present a selection of screenprints on canvas produced by Conz and designed to be easy to transport and exhibit in various contexts. These works interact through videos, artists’ multiples and other editions to create an experience that reflects on the art of publishing both as an artistic tool and as an effective space of cross-genre exchange, in harmony with the Fluxus spirit.

The way we burden our Earth, exploit and exhaust it, penetrates deeply into our consciousness. A dizzying web of life is interconnected within the biosphere. Bacteria, microorganisms, plant, fungus, and animal species coexist with humans in a delicate layer of soil, water, and air. We are connected through food streams. Sustained only by the energy of the sun, the Earth system behaves like a single organism, striving to regenerate and sustain itself and life (Gaia Theory, James Lovelock/Lynn Margulis). Awareness of the delicate and fragile fabric of life leads to the astonishing realization that the Earth as a whole — the ecosystem itself, with its physical, chemical, and biological components — is resilient and enduring through change, decay, and emergence. It continually regulates itself anew. Life goes on and ultimately survives us humans. Our human struggle lies in attempting to shape everything according to our own ideas through intervention. Yet our existence is actually owed to the Earth's biological diversity. If we wish to preserve the web of life to which we belong, we must restrain ourselves and observe the dynamic structure in its ability to self-heal, better understand it, and support it. In its fragile delicacy, the fabric of life is filled with beauty. Hanna Battisti is an artist and lecturer in art didactics at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. In her art, she primarily uses photography, a medium she learned from Rupert Larl at the Fotoforum West in Innsbruck in the 1990s. Since her time abroad in Nepal, Tibet, and China, she has practiced the art of Far Eastern ink painting. She has been exhibiting her works continuously at home and abroad since 1997, most recently FUTURO FRAGILE, 2024 in Innsbruck. She has published several books, most recently NATURA VIVA, ArcaEdizioni 2020. Since 2008, she has been a member of the South Tyrolean Artists' Association.

The Church of St Johann in Taufers was built around 1220. The Romanesque church building has the shape of a Greek cross. The fully painted groined vault shows Byzantine influences, and the frescoes from the late Romanesque period are also worth seeing. A collection of the traditional costume "Rittner Tracht" from the 18th century to the present day. On Wednesdays and Fridays from 4–6 p.m. in the historic Commandery Lengmoos. Last entry: 5.30 p.m., Admission: € 4, free with RittenCard. The traditional costume has a long tradition on the Ritten/Renon, which is still cultivated by associations and organisations today. It is very important for us to preserve this living cultural asset for the future and make it accessible to a broad public.

Guided tour of the church and visit to the Romanesque three apses church of St. Margarethen. It is one of the Romanesque sites in South Tyrol and represents an art-historical treasure of European value. On the Romanesque Road you will come across numerous documents from earlier times. From the "Foolish Virgins" and the "Dumpling Eater", to one of the oldest churches in Tyrol, the smallest town in the Alps and the highest Benedictine monastery in Europe, as well as other Romanesque frescoes and sites of unspeakable value, these are all part of the "Stairway to Heaven" project. The small but fine School Museum at Tagusens shows visitors and interested people the life of the pupils between the years 1933 and 1993 and is a unique collection of furnishings and teaching documents that have been preserved on site. The school life in Tagusens did not mean an encounter with the "foreign" world for the "ABC-Shooters". The children in the lonely place knew each other, only the teacher changed year after year. Furnishings and teaching objects were less worn than elsewhere and thus remained intact. Nostalgic feelings and memories are certainly not absent here and seduce to a bygone era. The school museum is open every Wednesday and Friday from 14:00-18:00 and every Sunday from 10:00-18:00. You do not need to register for a visit.

"Stop for a few moments, then maybe you know how to move on." Musical theater piece with historical facts from the exciting history of the Allerengelberg monastery on the village square in Karthaus/Certosa. Simple and linear forms define the artistic work of Andreas Senoner, whose journey as a woodturner began two years ago. For Senoner, the work begins long before he actually starts turning at the lathe. Always in search of special pieces of wood, the creative craftsman finds his raw material on farms and in the surrounding forests—some finds he even brings back from his travels. Nature also serves as a source of inspiration for Senoner when it comes to shapes and colors. Some pieces are burned, others treated in different ways, but the artist always manages to preserve the true value of the wood and its natural appearance. The shape, the color, the growth structure: everything is made and kept visible, revealing the story of the tree from which the finished piece has grown. Andreas Senoner (born 1962 in Selva di Val Gardena) began learning the carpentry trade at the age of 14. In the workshop, he discovered his passion for wood—a passion that has never left him. The shapes and colors of trees, the vitality and power of branches that defy wind and weather, hold a deep fascination for him. From this fascination grew the desire to learn the art of woodturning. Shortly after retiring, Andreas Senoner acquired a lathe and quickly realized he had found his true calling. “It’s incredibly exciting to observe how a piece of wood transforms through my work. My many years of experience as a carpenter help me to understand the properties of the wood and what I can create from it,” says the artist.

From the Ladin Museum we set off together to discover SMACH Val dl'Ert (Art Valley), an open-air sculpture park which in 2023 has one of the special mentions in the National Landscape Award sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Along the path you will see more than 25 works of art set in an alpine forest, among the fir trees and pastures of a stretch of unspoilt nature. This is a permanent exhibition of sculptures acquired as a result of the SMACH art competition, the Dolomites Biennale. After the guided tour in the Val dl’Ert you can independently visit the Ladin Museum where you can immerse yourself in the history, culture and traditions of the Ladin people.
