    DIMINISHING RETURNS
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
We and our bodies, ideas, imaginations, and desires are consumed, processed, and monetized every day, just as we consume ourselves. Questioning the concept of visual excess in times of global crises requires an expanded understanding of research fields that bridge multiple contexts: How do we visually confront – and find ourselves confronted by – the contemporary phenomena of (over-)production and (hyper-)consumption? How can we filter out information “signals” from an excess of data “noise”? How do narratives of excess interact with imaginaries of renouncement, sacrifice, and resistance? How do they shape the way we perceive ourselves and how we live together as societies? The exhibition Diminishing Returns explores these questions, proposing counter-narratives and performative activities that challenge stereotypical notions of excess and its impacts. The works critically examine the personal, cultural, and social implications of excess from diverse perspectives. They contribute to dialogue by creating spaces for reflection, analyzing the role and use of images in our visual landscape, and engaging visitors through formats that directly challenge them.

FORT biennale_01. In the Body of Language
    Franzensfeste/Fortezza, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
In the Body of Language Im Körper der Sprache Nel corpo del linguaggio describes in three languages an environment that is explored with this art biennial and at the same time the state of our existence in the impossibility of separating the spiritual from the physical. Even if language is ultimately limited to a translation of inner experience and cognition, the communicable part of our experience and understanding of the world can be expressed in it. Language is a means of participation and has revolutionary potential. It builds worlds within us and around us, creates connections and demarcations. At the same time, it is alive and in constant motion - it reflects the political and social upheavals of our time.

The islands of Elba, Tavolara, Giglio, Le Camere, but also Favignana and Palmarola: each work on glass by Antonello Viola is inspired by an island, giving shape over time to an imaginary and highly personal archipelago in which the physical characteristics of each island dissolve into hazy chromatic chords.

    Robert Pan. Alchemy of colours
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
The two-part special exhibition shows a representative overview of Robert Pan's oeuvre, while other works by the artist are integrated into the permanent exhibition in the historic building, creating an exciting dialogue with the Baroque furnishings of the imperial and episcopal appartments. This unusual combination opens up a dialogue across epochs: Pan's experimental abstract compositions, which focus on forms, colours and structures, interact with the strongly symbolic works of the Baroque masters. The exhibition thus not only offers the opportunity to trace Robert Pan's artistic development, but also invites visitors to experience the visually appealing contrast between different forms of artistic expression.

    DOWN ART COLLECTION
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
STAZIONE UNO GALLERY, an exhibition space located in the heart of Bolzano, is composed of spaces totaling over 300 square meters, divided over 2 floors and 3 rooms. The creator, Johann Kosjek, assisted by the Mediamacs Design team responsible for the exhibitiongraphics, aims to fill the gallery with special exhibitions for a period of two years. Stazione Uno now presents its latest creation, LIVINGBIOGRAPHIES, which, as the name suggests, tells the life stories of everyday people. At the center of the exhibition are the personalitiesof the individual exhibitors: their families, their histories, their life paths, their dreams, and finally their "diagnosis." With a commonthread: the participants in the exhibition are always connected to their destiny and not to the successes of an overly satisfying life. Stazione Uno comes to life through its participants. A team that could not be more diverse: people with and without disabilities, peoplewith and without "diagnoses," people even with 100% disability, gathered in what we have chosen to call the DOWN ART COLLECTION.People who have something to say and tell their unusual life stories, facing them positively, and constituting the so-called primary targetgroup of our exhibition work.

Exhibition: Coming-Out - Women loving women in South Tyrol tell their stories
    Meran/Merano, Meran/Merano and environs
Guest showcase by Lisa Settari. In this exhibition, Lisa Settari offers insights into her master's thesis on the coming-out narratives of women who love women in South Tyrol's recent history. The work is based on twenty oral history interviews that Lisa Settari was allowed to conduct with ten women-loving women. Thanks to these oral sources and a focus on women's, gender and queer history, the existing historiography of South Tyrol can be both enriched and critically scrutinised. Lisa Settari: born 1994 in Merano, Bachelor in Political Science, Master in European Women's and Gender History, currently lecturer at the ‘Alexandru Ioan Cuza’ University in Iași (Romania).

    Fossilia - The museum
    Mölten/Meltina, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The fossil museum is designed as an outdoor museum and is accessible to interested visitors at any time and explains itself by means of texts and audio stations. A guided tour for a group of the museum with one of our local experts is highly recommended. Booking is possible by means of direct requests to the tourist office: info@moelten.net It is now a long time – 260 million years – since trees resembling today’s araucaria grew in Mölten/Meltina. The ginkgos produced feathery leaves, while tree-high horsetails stood between the village of Mölten/Meltina and the Möltner Kaser hut. It is astonishing that clearly identifiable forms of these South Tyrolean primeval forests remain: trees fell into the riverbank or were carried along by the current, embedded in sand and finally transformed into fossils. They can now be seen in the Fossil Museum, which was revitalised in 2023 and designed as an outdoor exhibition. It shows the best of the finds from the area around Mölten/Meltina. Particularly noteworthy are the fossil tree and plant remains, some 260 million years old, as well as the footprints of a small reptile. What is special about the fossils in Mölten/Meltina? There are only three places in South Tyrol where plant fossils from the Late Permian have been recovered: the Bletterbach Gorge; Seceda; and Mölten/Meltina. The finds from Mölten/Meltina are the only ones that reveal entire trees. Details of their growth, their branches, roots and size are all clearly visible, which makes it possible to reconstruct entire forests. The Fossil Museum has a fully equipped multifunctional room that can be hired for events for up to 30 people.

AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS - Works from the Enea Righi Collection
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The title AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS is borrowed from the writing of Virginia Woolf, in which human life unfolds as a testament to its fluidity, brimming with potential and uncertainty. Her characters delicately hover between presence and impending absence, grappling with the memory of events and conflicts that prove elusive to full comprehension. The title therefore hints at the various thresholds between remembering and forgetting and the recurring acts of opening and closing doors on the continuous human journey of becoming. As such, the exhibition traces the intimate connections between life itself and the stories we tell, between what was and what remains physically perceptible. Above all, it highlights the collectors’ understanding of the transformative power of art by providing profound insights into life’s fluidity. The works selected for AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS encourage viewers to ponder the transitional spaces of contemporary existence, where socio-political tensions intertwine with artistic expression. Throughout their artistic and sometimes activist work, artists such as Lisetta Carmi, Nan Goldin, and Zoe Leonard have emphasized the fluid nature of identity by regarding bodies as open systems in a permanent exchange with the environment. The works of Giulia Cenci, Jef Geys, Roman Ondak, Tarik Kiswanson and Bronwyn Katz are just a few examples of how doors, and windows recur in the exhibition as potent motifs that frame the human body as well as marking transitions and thresholds. Objects from daily life, urban architecture, and public décor – like Alex Ayed’s sculptures or Michael E. Smith or Massimo Bartolini’s installations – are relocated and reframed by the artists to compose new narratives and weave unexpected connections between geographies and memories. Curated by Museion director Bart van der Heide, Frida Carazzato, Brita Köhler, and Leonie Radine, in collaboration with the collector Lorenzo Paini, the exhibition showcases a significant part of the Enea Righi Collection. Over the years, this collection has not only followed the artistic evolution of renowned conceptual positions, it has also embraced and supported a younger generation of artists. Another defining characteristic of the collection is its affinity for works of an institutional scale.

    Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen: Vor Sonnenaufgang
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
‘Before Sunrise’ by Ewald Palmetshofer, based on Gerhart Hauptmann, is about a family in the countryside that has come into money and, marked by strokes of fate, seeks anaesthesia in alcohol intoxication. This led director Sarantos Zervoulakos and set and costume designer Ece Anisoglu - inspired by the location and nature of the studio in the Stadttheater Bozen and the wellness paradise of South Tyrol - to transform the setting into a sauna, which has consequences for the players. This social drama also includes a kissing scene with simulated sex, an off-screen birth and mild physical violence. Potential nudity is also to be expected due to the location in a sauna. All these consequences have prompted us, the Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen, to deal with the complex issue of intimacy coordination and to provide preventive measures for players and all those involved.

Esposizione "The Rise of the Fleeting Moment" by Giancarlo Lamonaca
    Sëlva/Selva, Dolomites Region Val Gardena
"Photography is an ideal tool to show the nuances of time, its effects, its consequences, but also its premises. Not the before and after, but the how and why in a presumed simultaneous eternity of events, condensed in an absurd and yet improbable attempt to capture the present. Giancarlo Lamonaca’s works represent, above all, a challenge to the idea of reality inherent in the concept of photography and open new fronts of dialogue with existence. These are physical and symbolic actions that reflect the allure of legitimate ambiguity. The impulse to record is not enough: the goal is to understand that every realistic element hides or implies something ambiguous, elusive, mysterious. It’s the need to expand and distort the known real world through a conceptual framework, showing how every form of (re-)cognition holds within itself a repertoire of potential and hypothetical imagination. Following Werner Heisenberg’s aphorism, according to which the artist is capable of 'penetrating reality from within,' we are called to seek what does not exist, the possible alternative, the different face of the world. It is always somewhat mad to want to surpass the boundaries of the 'photographable.' It means unveiling all the ambiguity of photography, allowing oneself to be impressed by its seductive fiction. But isn't it perhaps the eternal ambiguity or the ephemeral nature of images: to show and hide at the same time, to portray the world and at the same time change it? Even in this cycle of work, everything can be continually observed, reorganized, and recomposed. It’s as if nothing is ever fixed and never really 'seen.' 'It is in this impossible limit of the physical world,' wrote photographer Luigi Ghirri, 'that photography finds meaning.'"

This music, which is not limited to any epoch, covers the periods from the Middle Ages to Romanticism.
