    FROM GROUND ZERO
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
A Film Project from Gaza: 22 Short Films by Palestinian Directors for the Oscars "From Ground Zero" is a film project that includes 22 short films created by young directors from Gaza. These films, ranging from three to six minutes long, were produced as part of the film school of Palestinian filmmaker Rashid Masharawi. The initiative emerged after the new conflict with Israel, which escalated following the attacks on October 7, 2023. Through various perspectives, the project presents a realistically tragic portrayal of Gaza, where despair alternates with hope. The project takes on the character of a reportage film and serves as a vital historical and human testimony to what is happening in Gaza. It depicts life in refugee camps, the rubble of destroyed buildings, and the sounds of bombings and aircraft flying overhead. The short films share many common elements, despite their differing stories, as they all depict Gaza, convey suffering and pain, and often use voice-over narration. The genres of the films are diverse: fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental cinema. For example, in Fragments, there is the use of black-and-white imagery and drawings in the story of a girl who "spiritually" searches for her dance group, trying to trace the memories of a happier past. In Out of Frame, painting and sketches capture the view of Gaza, especially focusing on the composition of a painting that highlights the divide between reality and its perception. While there are qualitative differences among the films, this is not the main concern, as all of them are united by the urgency of telling their stories. This urgency is evident in the nervous movements of the handheld camera, and even though some of the forms are more elaborate, they are never intrusive. Notable films include No Signal, which depicts a man’s desperate attempts to rescue his brother trapped under rubble. The film is powerful due to its claustrophobic nature, as it is filmed in a confined space. A School Day tells the story of Khaled, a student who walks through tents, markets, and ruins until he reaches the grave of his teacher, who died during the war. Every fragment of From Ground Zero leaves an impression, serving as a historical, political, and especially human document. In fact, it can be seen as a single film, with recurring sounds and noises of daily life in Gaza echoing throughout. Despite the prohibitive working conditions, many directors emphasize the vitality of the Palestinian cultural and artistic landscape. The lost dream of filmmaker Ahmed Assouna, who now must focus on saving his family's life, is explored in Sorry Cinema, while Everything is Fine tells the story of a stand-up comedian who offers comfort in a refugee camp. These films represent both a dramatic break with the past and a glimpse into the future.

    Thomas Melle: „Bilder von uns“
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
A picture from the past is sent anonymously to Jesko's mobile phone. Out of nowhere, he is confronted with something that he had actually buried deep in the turmoil of his youth at Catholic boarding school. What actually happened back then? Memories of Father Stein, who regularly photographed the pupils back then, come to mind. The search for the sender of the picture begins, but also the search for the truth and how to deal with a time at school that was perhaps more traumatising than he would like to admit. Three former schoolmates are sought out. All of them have taken different paths in life, have different memories of what happened and have different ways of dealing with the events that are now being set in motion.

    À JOUR. Clemen Parrocchetti
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Ar/Ge Kunst presents À JOUR, the first institutional exhibition of the work of Clemen Parrocchetti (Milan 1923–2016). A rebellious and non-conformist artist, Clemen Parrocchetti experienced the events of 1968 as a watershed moment of radical creative and political transformation. It was in those years of feminist struggle that the artist adopted the tools and methods of housework to take a political stance on the issues most hotly debated on a theoretical level within the movement, such as the subordinate role of women, abortion and divorce as elements of emancipation, domestic violence and sexual liberation. The peculiarity of domestic chores in Parrocchetti’s works reflects the artist’s closeness to the International Feminist Collective founded in Padua by theorists such as Silvia Federici, Mariarosa Dalla Costa and Leopoldina Fortunati. Among its many political actions, the Collective instituted the International Wages for Housework Campaign. This latter theme was also central to the Varese-based Gruppo Immagine featuring women artists only (Cibaldi, Gandini, Parrocchetti, Secol and Sironi), which Parrocchetti joined in ’78 and with which she would take part in the Venice Biennale that same year. The exhibition focuses largely on Parrocchetti’s works form the 1970s. À jour, the work which provides the title for the show, exploits the various meanings of the term in French, referencing the embroidery technique performed by extracting threads from the weft of a fabric in such a way as to create a slight transparency, also known as openwork stitching in English. Yet mettre à jour also means to make something manifest; in this case, what is brought to light is the very condition of women in their struggle against patriarchal subordination. But à jour is also used in the sense of the repetitiveness of female household chores, highlighting the barriers that the female artist must overcome day after day. Clemen Parrocchetti (1923–2016) lived and worked in Milan. After gaining a diploma from the Brera Academy in 1957, she held more than fifty solo shows in Italy and abroad, developing original research with its own strong character, embracing the spirit of the protests of ’68 and founding a feminist language “expressed through objects”, in line with the political outlook of the revendication of the unpaid work of production and reproduction carried out by women, close to the Movement of Feminist Struggle based in Padua.

AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS - Works from the Enea Righi Collection
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The title AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS is borrowed from the writing of Virginia Woolf, in which human life unfolds as a testament to its fluidity, brimming with potential and uncertainty. Her characters delicately hover between presence and impending absence, grappling with the memory of events and conflicts that prove elusive to full comprehension. The title therefore hints at the various thresholds between remembering and forgetting and the recurring acts of opening and closing doors on the continuous human journey of becoming. As such, the exhibition traces the intimate connections between life itself and the stories we tell, between what was and what remains physically perceptible. Above all, it highlights the collectors’ understanding of the transformative power of art by providing profound insights into life’s fluidity. The works selected for AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS encourage viewers to ponder the transitional spaces of contemporary existence, where socio-political tensions intertwine with artistic expression. Throughout their artistic and sometimes activist work, artists such as Lisetta Carmi, Nan Goldin, and Zoe Leonard have emphasized the fluid nature of identity by regarding bodies as open systems in a permanent exchange with the environment. The works of Giulia Cenci, Jef Geys, Roman Ondak, Tarik Kiswanson and Bronwyn Katz are just a few examples of how doors, and windows recur in the exhibition as potent motifs that frame the human body as well as marking transitions and thresholds. Objects from daily life, urban architecture, and public décor – like Alex Ayed’s sculptures or Michael E. Smith or Massimo Bartolini’s installations – are relocated and reframed by the artists to compose new narratives and weave unexpected connections between geographies and memories. Curated by Museion director Bart van der Heide, Frida Carazzato, Brita Köhler, and Leonie Radine, in collaboration with the collector Lorenzo Paini, the exhibition showcases a significant part of the Enea Righi Collection. Over the years, this collection has not only followed the artistic evolution of renowned conceptual positions, it has also embraced and supported a younger generation of artists. Another defining characteristic of the collection is its affinity for works of an institutional scale.

Esposizione "Träume // Vanishing" by Ismaele Soraperra
    Sëlva/Selva, Dolomites Region Val Gardena
The project “TRÄUME // VANISHING” delves into the pulsating heart of a generation grappling with an increasingly pluralized and undefined context, in constant flux. Its aim is to explore the deconstructive approach of contemporary times, highlighting the personal and collective challenges that fuel disillusionment toward the future. In an era where certainties seem to crumble, individuals find themselves relying solely on their personal experiences, desperately attempting to make sense of a fluid society devoid of rooted identities. Through a visual narrative characterized by an experimental and installation-like approach, the project unveils the fractures and discontinuities defining our time, analyzing the relationships between individual and plurality, isolation and collectivity. These dichotomies shape a disenchanted generation navigating fragments of reality, confronting its fears and insecurities. The body of work seeks to reassemble a coherent image of a world in perpetual transformation. The project is not confined to mere aesthetic representation; it invites the audience to actively reflect on their role within this complex scenario. It is a call to redefine one’s relationship with the surrounding reality, acknowledging fluidity as an intrinsic characteristic of our era and finding new ways to construct identity. “TRÄUME // VANISHING” aspires to become a profound and intense portrayal of a generation marked by uncertainty and precariousness, seeking new dimensions to inhabit and establish its identity.

Ernst Müller. In the colours of memory
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
Ernst Müller, born and raised in Vinschgau, draws his artistic inspiration from deep-rooted childhood memories. The self-taught artist and trained coachbuilder began painting at the age of thirteen and over the decades has developed into an important chronicler of the South Tyrolean cultural landscape. Influenced by the precise observation of classical masters such as Albin Egger Lienz, Toulouse-Lautrec and Claude Monet, Müller initially created scenes of everyday rural life, later devoting himself mainly to picturesque farmsteads and landscapes, which are now considered his trademark. The nostalgia that has accompanied the artist since childhood is omnipresent in his oil paintings. The artist captures the magic of the South Tyrolean mountains with vibrant colours and impasto structures that transport the viewer to a world of the past. Many of the farms he portrays no longer exist, which gives his paintings not only artistic but also documentary value.

    Exhibition - Colours of Snow
    Meran/Merano, Meran/Merano and environs
Snow does not always appear pure white, at least not to the attentive gaze of two painters like Alfons Walde or Max von Esterle. In his paintings, von Esterle poetically celebrates the magic of snow, while Walde - a little later - does so with concise expressiveness. This is the first time that these two important painters appear together in an exhibition. Alongside theirs, there are also snow-covered landscapes by other contemporary Italian and Austrian artists. All of these paintings create a variegated fabric that, unravelling, creates an unmissable spectacle. In the exhibition, of course, exponents of the art of our time with their abstract compositions or thought-provoking installations have not been left out. At the conclusion of the exhibition, in fact, at a time of climate change, a question about the ‘future of snow’ could not be left out: how much longer will we be able to enjoy this spectacle? Entry: adults € 6.00; reduced € 5.00 for seniors; free entry for children and teens under the age of 18. Combi ticket Palais Mamming Museum and Castle Principesco € 8.00.

    Meran/Merano, Meran/Merano and environs
The student project, realised by the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in collaboration with the Palais Mamming Museum, highlights aspects of Klaber Thusek's creative work and shows drawings, sculptures and fashion designs. It also provides an insight into the artist's private life. A surprising answer to the question: ‘Who is Gina Klaber Thusek?’ emerges. Gina's diaries, in which she wrote about her life over decades, open up an initial perspective: they are not only a record, but also an artistic narrative in which reality and fantasy wrestle with each other. The photographs taken by friends and lovers - some of them under her direction - show even more clearly the inexhaustible creative will with which Klaber Thusek tried to realise not only her image as an artist, but also a woman's life beyond the usual boundaries in the interplay of conformity and transgression. Gina Klaber Thusek has not only left behind the story of a woman's life that still inspires today. She has turned her life itself into a ‘work’. Entrance fees Adults 6,00 € / Reduced 5,00 €
