Various alleys and through roads link via Portici with the backstreets and parallel roads, Dr. Streiter and Argentieri. Take one of these, vicolo della Pesa, and you can reach piazza del Grano, where the farmers' market was once held. It is one of the oldest places in Bolzano, once hosting the castle of the Prince-Bishops of Trento (destroyed in 1277 by Mainardo II di Tyrolo) and the church of Sant'Andrea (destroyed in 1785). One of the most picturesque buildings of the city is situated to the north of this square: la casa della Pesa (1634), public weigh-house until 1780.

Laimburg Castle was built in the 13th century by the Lords of Laimburg as a residence and was intended to secure the transition over the “Kreithersattel”, the connection between the Val d'Adige valley and the Oltradige/Überetsch valley. Originally, the castle was built in Romanesque style and later, in 1342, extended in Gothic style. Towards the end of the 15th century the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair. In 2002 the castle was completely restored and secured and is freely accessible ever since.

Due to my passion for the mountains and especially for alpine mountaineering, I spend a lot of time in nature in summer and winter.
Again and again I see the most wonderful and unique creations and whims of nature.
The most beautiful ones are often found in inaccessible places and the recovery is usually difficult.
In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, it gives me pleasure to take such pieces and put them in the limelight.
This hobby soon became a passion and finally the company Mannart was born.
Unique and full of energy, each unique piece brings warmth and well-being into every dwelling and satisfies the longing for nature and wilderness.

Museum Pons Drusi - Remains of the Roman Era
During the construction work of the Center for the Care of the Elderly, some extraordinary evidence of the Roman Era (1st century AD) was brought to light: a richly frescoed building with a columned hall and a massive structure, probably the base of a temple or a monument. To date, the archeological area is considered the most important testimony of Pons Drusi, i.e. Bolzano Bozen in the Roman era. The settlement stood at the intersection of the Roman road between the Val d'Isarco and the Val d'Adige along the Via Claudia Augusta.

Built in 1237 on a jutting edge of rock, the castle has been worked on and enlarged many times over and it boasts a collection of beautiful frescoes, depicting life scenes from court, hunting parties, knightly tournaments and scenes from everyday life. Literary depictions are not missing, as they also illustrate the adventures of Tristan and Isolda and those of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. It is the biggest collection of profane frescoes and the best preserved one of the Middle Age. There are always some interesting cultural events going on at the castle, wich from time to time liven up the halls and court of Roncolo. A restaurant offers the chance to taste local dishes in a medieval setting.
