What cultural and historical role do mushrooms play? How can the properties of mushrooms illuminate new paths in pharmacological science? What responsible and sustainable methods can be adopted in mushroom foraging? At least once, we've all 'gone' mushroom picking. But there's a difference between going and truly seeing. In the company of Andrea, an enthusiastic mycologist, it's possible to view the forest from the mushroom's perspective. This shift in viewpoint is exhilarating, fascinating, and unique: suddenly, the mushroom is not just a fruit of the earth but a connector that binds every form of life within the forest ecosystem. We are in the forests of La Val, areas that transform with the seasons, home to a variety of mushrooms that includes more than just the familiar porcini and chanterelles. With Andrea, the journey becomes a sensory and cognitive adventure where each encountered mushroom serves as a pretext for stories of ecology, biology, and chemistry. Thus, learning transforms into an art: the art of identifying, collecting, and respecting mushrooms and of discovering the wonders of the fungal kingdom, thanks to their extraordinary medicinal properties that often have anticipated new frontiers in pharmaceutical research. This experience is part of ATIRA: a series of weekly meetings and excursions designed to raise awareness about crucial issues for maintaining sustainable territorial development. This tour is a must because it's simply fun! The Plose Bike guides have discovered new, challenging trails that are accessible after an additional ascent. But don't worry, for those who want to take it easy, there is still the classic, easier route available. And for those who don't know the tour yet- look forward to three peaks and varied trails! The Gitschberg Jochtal cable cars do most of the elevation gain for us. After a steep, not too long ascent, we reach the Kleine Gitsch and thus our first summit. A varied mix of technical, flowing and rough trails lead us down into the valley of Vals, where a leisurely climb to the next cable car awaits us. After another ride on the cable car, we reach our lunch stop. Refreshed, we have another ascent to the second summit, the Stoanamandl. Take a short breather and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountain landscape. On the third peak, the Alte Karl, we enjoy our third summit moment. After taking the cable car up to the Alpe di Siusi, we start our hike. First we hike towards Panorama and along the slopes of the Goldknopf to the foot of the Rosszahn ridge. The trail climbs steeply in serpentines to the Rosszahnscharte. From there it is only a few minutes to the Tierser Alpl refuge, where we take our lunch break. The way back is via the “Bärenloch”. The Fallmetz summit (2,568m) is an insider tip as it is less well-known but offers a spectacular 360-degree view. The moderately difficult hike begins in Meransen. The trail leads you through alpine panoramas to the Falzarer Joch between the Altfasstal valley and Pfunders. From the Falzarer Joch, you climb over a grassy ridge to the pre-summit. The slightly exposed transition to the main summit is quickly conquered and an unimagined panoramic view of the large Seefeldsee lake, the Altfasstal valley and the surrounding mountain peaks awaits you. The descent is via the ascent route. Stop for refreshments on the way back. Total walking time: approx. 7 hours, covering a distance of 16 km and 1,100 metres of elevation gain. E-Bike Tour – Freiberg - Merano Our Freiberg Tour begins in Algund. From there we ride along the signposted cycle track into Merano. In the spa town we ride along various side streets in the old town and soon reach the cycle track that leads into the Passeier Valley. At Lazag we leave the cycle track and reach the lovely Merano district of Obermais, from where we cycle in the direction of St. Georgen as far as Goyen Castle. Next we cross the Naif Valley and reach the Freiberg, where a fabulous view of Merano awaits us. We then cycle along Panoramastrasse to the Rauthof wine tavern, where we take a well-deserved break.
