Thanksgiving Day in Kastelruth is an annual event where the people of the community express their gratitude for a successful harvest year. On the day of the celebration a Holy Mass is held, followed by a procession through the streets of the village. The procession starts at the church and goes through the streets of Kastelruth, while the villagers sing their harvest songs. At the end of the procession, the congregation gathers in the village square, where our local parish priest concludes the Mass and gives God's blessing to all those present.

In Prato allo Stelvio, ancient customs and traditions are experienced like in few other places in South Tyrol. "Zusslrennen" and "Machgertanz" in carnival, the "Goaßlschnölln" group and the famous "Tuifl" devils of St. Nicholas in December are just a few examples of the village's cultural specialities. The entire variety of living traditions and ancient costumes will be brought closer to visitors during the seventh festival of tradition and taste, to be held on 6 October 2024. The Tourist Association of Prato, together with the participating associations, invites you to participate in a colourful programme of events as part of the festival. From local and regional customs to culinary delights, a large craft and gourmet market, open kitchen, bowling alley, harmonious music and much more, there is much for festival visitors to see and experience. The festival starts at 9.30 a.m. with a morning pint in the main square of Prato.

The small, fine market on the town hall square in Tramin offers all sorts of things: from sweaters and T-shirts to leather goods. The Tramin market only takes place once a month. A detour is always worthwhile!

Hike to the organic farm Niedersteinhof above St. Leonhard/S. Leonardo. There, organic farmer and farm owner Walter opens the gates of his kingdom to us. With passionate explanations of the farm philosophy and the associated concept, he takes us into the world of his agricultural work. Schenna market is full of festival feeling. Like in the olden days, the market is more than just a place to sell or buy wares – it’s a place to meet people and stop for a chat!

From 10.00 am. to 6.00 pm., the Town Hall Square will transform into a bustling marketplace. More than 40 talented artisans will showcase their works, inviting you to stroll and shop. Sheep’s wool felt of Villnösser Brillenschaf sheep for children in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park Visitor Center. As part of the Lamb Weeks of the "Villnösser Brillenschaf", an afternoon of handicrafts is organised. For children from 6 to 12 years. Free of charge, but registration required by 6 pm the day before.

In Val Casies Valley, in the village of S. Maddalena, the traditional "Kirschta" (church day) is celebrated in autumn. We particularly recommend the "Original Obolola Almabtrieb" on Saturday afternoon. The farmers, dressed in traditional costumes, bring their livestock, such as cows, sheep and goats, directly from the mountain pastures back down to the valley. The animals are lavishly decorated with flowers, wreaths and bells. At the end of the valley, there is traditional food and musical entertainment until the end of the festival. On Sunday, the Kirchtag is celebrated with the traditional morning pint in the S. Maddalena Association House with traditional music and local, regional specialities.

The main attraction of the "Wandelhalle", a covered arcade that features a series of paintings of local landscapes and busts of prominent historic figures of the city. Various artists will expose their works there.

It is probably the most beautiful pilgrimage across the whole Alpine region: when autumn is at its most colourful, on the second Sunday in October, the villagers of Ortisei go up to the Chapel of San Giacomo. The location itself is heavenly: the chapel and the visitors look out across the Sassolungo from a spot on the steep mountain forest. From here, the mountain comes across like a cathedral of nature. Blessed as one is after a view like this, on Monday go to the traditional Segra Sacun market. Here it's all about the more earthly delights. The whole pedestrian zone is a lively market square, where walking through can be a bit difficult at times. Culinary delights, craftsmanship, carved and painted, are on offer. Another old tradition takes place in the market place: men ripe for marriage will buy a pear at the market, which they will decorate with a ribbon and give as a present to their chosen one. During Easter the following year, the woman has to give the man Easter eggs. Important: the man cannot forget to pick up the eggs if he wants to win his woman over.

Every year after the village festival in St. Jacob, on Monday the market "Segra Sacun" will be held in the pedestrian area of Ortisei. The “Segra Sacun” market is the largest market of the year, which is filled with numerous stands that offer culinary delights and craft products. According to an ancient tradition, girls and women, on the occasion of this day, will be gifted with decorated pears as a sign of sympathy and love.

The young farmers of Tesimo/Prissiano invite you to a convivial evening with roasted chestnuts, "Suser" (grape must) and wine in the centre of Tesimo.

No matter whether on the alpine pasture, in the restaurant or in the hotel. Everyone knows the popular South Tyrolean delicacy "Kaiserschmarren", which can be found on almost every menu. After a short hike, participants can experience the path "from grain to Kaiserschmarren" in the MuseumPasseier. With various hands-on activities in the open-air area, it is shown in an interesting way how a Kaiserschmarren is made from grain. At the end, of course, you can taste the delicious Kaiserschmarren. Guided tour through the apple meadows in Gargazzone/Gargazon (with reservation). Our farmer will guide you through their fields, explains you about the healthy ingredients, the production area and about all sorts and brands of the South Tyrolean apple. Gain insight into the secrets of the apple farmers - from the latest technology of today and the gnarled giants of the past. Afterwards, you can taste for yourself.

The farmers’ festival at Teis, which will take place on 20th October 2024, is one of South Tyrol’s most traditional festivals and a true journey of discovery through the crafts and customs of the Villnöss valley. On the festival, you’ll learn how to do old farm crafts such as baking bread, weaving baskets and hats, felting, carving and pottery. Freshly prepared, rustic specialties are also served, while musical groups play in the charming village lanes. Beginning at 10.00 am.

With the Village market the village bridge is transformed into a culinary and artisanal treasure trove and invites you to discover, enjoy and taste. Several producers from the Passeiertal Valley present their exquisite products that make the heart of every market lover beat faster.

Experience chestnuts and wine in Lana in the chestnut grove of the Katzenthalerhof on Brandiswaalweg and in the "Hännsl am Ort" vineyard in Mitterlana. Wine, nature, old stone walls & wine cellars. Enjoy a delicious chestnut soup and traditional chestnut bread and taste farm made wines. Last but not least, we roast chestnuts together on the open fire. Autumn is the time for Törggelen! “Törggelen” comes from the Latin word “torculum”, which means “winepress”. The fragrant smell of roasted chestnuts is truly special, and something which characterises autumn time. People meet together to enjoy Tyrolean specialities, the new wine (known here as “Susser”, from the German word for “sweet”) – and the delicious chestnuts, of course. Innkeepers, farmers, artisans and artists all proffer their wares on Raiffeisenplatz market square, so there’s plenty to see.

The chestnut has a long tradition in South Tyrol. In this cooking class, that will be in German language and/or Italian language, you will learn how to prepare sweet and piquant dishes with chestnuts of Tesimo.
