The Banishing of Winter in Prato allo Stelvio The banishing of winter and the race of the Zussl are ancient traditional customs practiced only in Prato allo Stelvio. Every year at this time, there is a carnival procession and a noisy ritual repeated exactly the same way. On Shrove Tuesday the town’s youth wear white costumes adorned with colored flowers made of paper and large bells, some as heavy as 20 kg, are worn around the waist of the males. The Zussl are dressed in white from head to toe and adorned with colored ribbons and paper pulp flowers. Tied around their waists, they wear large noisy bells, which often weigh over 20 kilos.

The Watles ski area once again invites you to the fun carnival race! Traditionally, the fun carnival race is organised on Watles on Sunday during the carnival season. On the descent, the disguised teams have to master various stations - at the end, prizes are awarded according to the standard! The fun race is great fun for young and young at heart. Live music and delicacies await you at the Plantapatsch Hut. More details regarding start time / entry fee and registration will follow!

The traditional Maschger dance is an old carnival custom in Prad am Stilfserjoch. On Shrove Sunday, Shrove Monday and Shrove Tuesday, the Maschger, led by a Bajaz, perform. Good-humoured, masked and exuberant couples parade from inn to inn, where they dance and play tricks according to set rituals. The masked group consists of eight couples: Mr and Mrs, Farmer and Farmer's Wife, Steyrer and Steyrerin, Tuxner and Tuxnerin, Zillertaler and Zillertalerin, Mohr and Mohrin, Tschigeiner and Tschigeinerin as well as Zoch and Pfott. As soon as the Maschger enter a tavern, the Bajaz with his pointed hat opens the dancing. Behind him, the eight couples wait in rows of two to make their entrance. The last couple are "Zoch and Pfott", the two roughest characters. They are dressed in rags and are supposed to demonstrate fertility. Nobody knows the exact origin of this custom or its deeper meaning. It is probably a kind of wedding procession or a dance of death. Nothing more is known.

Lasa is not only known for its marble, the historic sloped railway and the healthy cabbage, but also for the creativity in the carnival season. The merchants and restaurateurs always come up with something "crazy" idea - and every second year the traditional Lasa Carnival parade takes place. You can, should, of course, very like to come as a "masked" to Lasa and enjoy until late in the evening .

Producers from the area offer their local and handmade products for tasting and for sale. Seasonal fruits and vegetables, bread, meat and sausage products, honey and jams, Liquors and juices, wood carvings and much more are offered.

At this nature workshop, children are inspired to create small works of art from natural materials such as pine cones, stones and nuts.

The annual spring concert of the Laces music group offers regional as well as exotic sounds.

“Oh rhyme, rhyme, whose disc should this be?" This is the quaint Venosta Valley spoken melody as it occurs in the archaic ritual of launching burning discs known as Scheibenschlagen. Every first Sunday of Lent the traditional Scheibenschlagen takes place - Winter is thereby expelled and love and fertility poetically evoked in a fire ritual. In order for Spring to show its blooming face, the demons of the cold and darkness must be expelled first. Wooden discs mounted on sticks are made to glow in an open fire. The red-hot slices are then sent flying off into the wide valley accompanied by rhyming chants and well-wishes. If the disc flew off easily and “flew well", then it will bring good luck. In the end, a witch made of straw, and a few meters tall, which symbolizes the Winter, is burned.

Watles: 4km | 400 asc After the extremely successful editions of the DYNAFIT Vinschgau Cup ski touring competition in recent years, the popular winter sports event is going into the next round. Designed as an amateur sporting event, the DYNAFIT Vinschgau Cup with its demanding routes is a challenge for passionate and experienced ski tourers. Nevertheless, entertainment and fun are in the foreground. The participants of the DYNAFIT Vinschgau Cup can expect magnificent distant views of the surrounding mountain massifs. After the courses Minschuns (CH) on 04.01.25, Schöneben on 31.01.25 and Haideralm 21.02.25, the Grand Final will take place on 15.03.25 on the Watles, starting at 10:00 am! The high-level, high-alpine and highly professional ski mountaineering race in the heart of the Stelvio National Park. From 20thto 22nd of March 2025 takes place the 17th edition of the Marmotta Trophy in Martelltal Valley. So far, the ski mountaineering race has been held a total of seven times as the ISMF World Cup. Raiffeisen South Tyrol Cup The final race and the regional championship of the South Tyrol Cup cross-country skiing will take place on March 22 and 23, 2025 in Sulden.

On 27 June 2025, the legendary Stelvio road will be closed to motorised traffic for the first half of the night and will be completely open to cyclists and pedestrians. The last seven kilometres of the 'Berghotel Franzenshöhe' before the summit will be magically illuminated by indirect lighting to show participants the way to the 2,757-metre peak. Experience the second edition of 'Challenge your menu' and enjoy regional specialities at five different catering points along the route from Trafoi to the summit of the pass. Whether on foot, by (E-)bike or other non-motorised means of transport; everyone is invited to take an enjoyable journey along the Stelvio Pass road at night on June 27, 2025 EXPERIENCE A MAGICAL MOMENT AND A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE! For the 21. time this year will be held the international meeting of the pole vault in Schlanders/Silandro. International athletes at the highest level will be present and ready to compete by jumping under the night sky of Schlanders/Silandro.

The 8 summit march - a mountain tour of a special kind! This high alpine extreme tour covers 25 km and 3,000 metres in altitude. The route leads from the picturesque, medieval town of Glurns in the valley to the mountain peaks in the Stilfserjoch National Park. At each of the 8 summits you receive a stamp, which must be stamped on the start card. Only recommended for real mountain enthusiasts. Info: R e g i s t r a t i o n Registration takes place via the online ticket sale, which is possible until 20 July 2025 at the advance booking price of € 70.00. From 21 July 2025, the ticket will cost € 80.00 (unless the number of participants of 500 has already been reached). From 24.07.2025, registration will only be possible by telephone. S t a r t The church service will take place in the Frauenkirche church at 03.30 am. From 04.00 a.m. - 05.30 a.m. the start packages will be handed out at the Glurns Festival site. For more than half a century, the "Nikolauskommitee Schlanders" has been introducing the old South Tyrolean tradition of St. Nicholas parade. Passing the retirement home and the hospital, St. Nicholas runs with his carriage through the center to the Plawennpark, where the celebration ends.
