    St. John's Church
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

Consecrated in 1180, the small church is Bolzano/Bozen's pride and joy. The simple central architecture is enriched by the beautiful bell Tower with mullioned Windows with two and three lights from the early years of the 14th century. The interior artwork is splendid: artists from Giotto's "vagabond" movement introduced a new plastic style and an astounding fresco technique, which reveal extraordinary interpretative and artistic capabilities. For information and guided tours please ask the Tourism Board (Via Alto Adige - Südtiroler Straße 60).

    Churches & Monasteries
    The Parish Church in Longomoso/Lengmoss
    Ritten/Renon, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

This church was probably built between 1220 and 1225. It is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It has been very much altered over time and in 1510 was enlarged in the Gothic style. The tower, which is not very tall, was probably first erected in 1300 and shows signs of the coming Gothic style, as do the slightly pointed tower windows. The tower was not extended in 1510 and so today makes rather a modest impression

    Churches & Monasteries
    Parish church of Aldein
    Aldein/Aldino, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

First documented mention of a church in Aldein was in 1309, according to excavations it was a Romanesque church with two apses. The masonry dates back to the 12th Century back. In the second half of the 15. cwntury a new church was built which was expanded to the west in 1841/42. A special feature is the pulpit, which is on the roof of Moses with the tablets of the law and above it the St. Spirit shows and the life-size statue of the Heart of Jesus.

    Shops
    Fuganti, haberdashery
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
The Fuganti sisters opened the shop at the end of the 1950s to supply
the district with the necessary products needed for sewing, knitting,
embroidery and crochet work. Back then, most of us would still
make our own clothing and our grandmothers and mothers could be
seen altering and patching up clothes regularly. The popular haberdashery
store changed ownership twice before three friends turned
their hobby into their daily breadwinner in 2018 – or rather, turned
their hobby into a business which also hired a part-time employee.
Besides selling haberdashery such as buttons, zippers, yarns, etc.
the store also sells sewing machines and provides technical support,
gentle detergents with surfactants of vegetable origin, house and
intimate linen, and a huge selection of knitting wool. Since the
three women love sewing, knitting and crocheting, you know you
can trust their advice. A sustainable hobby? Repairing zippers. Their
passion led them to organise knitting cafes and various sewing and felt workshops in their shop. The pandemic didn’t stop them, as they
organised the same sessions on the Talvera meadows along the river
on Friday afternoons and evenings. Great events which unite different
generations and provide a meeting spot for the people living in
    the neighbourhood.

    Gallery Lungomare
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

Lungomare, a cultural association founded in Bolzano in 2003, was created from the desire and necessity to open a space in which to share differences, experiences, opinions and desires, a space in which to make the link between cultural production and the political and social dimension. Lungomare undertakes projects that investigate and test possible relationships between design, architecture, urban planning, art and theory, the results of which are presented in different formats: public discussions, conferences, publications, exhibitions and interventions in public spaces. All these formats are characterised by the intention to interact with cultural and socio-political processes relating to the region in which Lungomare is located.

Currently Lungomare’s activities focus on long-term residency projects, a format whereby Lungomare invites guests to engage and interact within the context of South Tyrol. Lungomare’s activities are based on three principles: specific attention to the context in which the association’s projects are undertaken, the transdisciplinary approach that distinguishes these projects, and reflection on the role of Lungomare as a cultural institution in connection with the region in which it operates.

The purpose of the project for the new staion in Oberbozen is based on the idea of providing the space of accesibility and openness that are missing  by  now,  and  at  the  same  time,  a  territorial  character  through  a  few  strictly  necessary  measures. The issue is solved mostly by the presence of a retaining wall  that defines the space. In  the  interiors  includes  an  office for information  and  facilities  such, this  way  the  area  is clear and free to change as much as possible depending on events (like concerts, christmas markets...). The  idea  was  to  project  the  floor  design  on  the  vertical  wall  seamlessly,  in  order  to  have  a  harmonization and a visual enlargement at the same time. The technique looks at the local tradition with the dry-built wall method. Arch & design Monovolume

    Facincani, opticians
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
He came with his family from Veneto to South Tyrol in the 1930s as
a small child. At first, they lived in San Candido, where the railwayman’s
father was punished because he was anti-fascist. So they soon
moved to Bolzano on Via Torino, where Renzo Facincani worked and
lived for a lifetime right next to the district optician shop he opened
in 1960. He had learned the trade at another well-known optician’s
who would have liked to hand over his shop to him. However,
Renzo wanted to open his own business and provide a service to
his neighbours. And that’s exactly what he did, stopping just shortly
before his death in 2020. He worked six days a week, and became
a household name as an expert optician as well as repairing and
adapting lenses. The store has been run since the year 2000 by
son Roberto Facincani, representing the second generation of the
    family-run business.
