    Gallery Lungomare
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

Lungomare, a cultural association founded in Bolzano in 2003, was created from the desire and necessity to open a space in which to share differences, experiences, opinions and desires, a space in which to make the link between cultural production and the political and social dimension. Lungomare undertakes projects that investigate and test possible relationships between design, architecture, urban planning, art and theory, the results of which are presented in different formats: public discussions, conferences, publications, exhibitions and interventions in public spaces. All these formats are characterised by the intention to interact with cultural and socio-political processes relating to the region in which Lungomare is located.

Currently Lungomare’s activities focus on long-term residency projects, a format whereby Lungomare invites guests to engage and interact within the context of South Tyrol. Lungomare’s activities are based on three principles: specific attention to the context in which the association’s projects are undertaken, the transdisciplinary approach that distinguishes these projects, and reflection on the role of Lungomare as a cultural institution in connection with the region in which it operates.

    Earth pyramids Ritten
    Ritten/Renon, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

The Renon earth pyramids are the highest and the most aesthetically pleasing in Europe. Earth pyramids are a phenomenon of erosion. They originate where ice-age glaciers have deposited moraine clay in valleys. When it is dry, it is rock-hard. If it comes into contact with water, it turns into a clayey pulp that flows down into the valley. However, when protected from the rain by large stones, the clay remains dry and hard. Only the part around the stone erodes. This is how earth columns are formed and become higher each time it rains. If the top stone falls off the peak, the column is certainly doomed to a quick decline because the clay is exposed to the rain and then carried away by it. The earth pyramids on the Renon can be marvelled at in three ravines: in the Rio Fosco valley between Longomoso and S. Maria, in the Rio Rivellone valley below Soprabolzano and in the valley of the Rio Gasterer at Auna di Sotto.

    Guggenbräu - Beer firm
Jenesien/San Genesio Atesino, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

The Guggenbräu beer firm is located in Avigna/Afing at an altitude of 960 m and was first mentioned in 1379. It has been family-owned for 198 years. The main activity was dairy farming, products such as butter and eggs were sold on the market in Bolzano and milk was delivered to the dairy. Unfortunately, this activity was no longer profitable and so they looked for alternatives. The idea of brewing beer arose from the wild hop plants that have always been climbing up a wall above the courtyard. Grain was grown in the fields around the farm before, so it was nothing new for Hans. So again, barley and wheat were cultivated for the farm's own beer production. In 2019, 7 different aroma hops were grown, which can bring a wide variety of exciting aromas to beer. As we had all the raw materials we needed for a purely agricultural beer, we started selling in autumn 2020.
