Schmidt becomes SCHMIEDL
Lana's village bakery is now called SCHMIEDL and is run by Johannes, Tobias and Greta. The young generation builds on over 100 years of experience and brings a fresh look and many new ideas to the bakery. SCHMIEDL relies on high-quality, natural ingredients, traditional craftsmanship and long dough processes. "Our most important ingredient is time," says master baker Johannes, "it makes our baked goods easy to digest and gives them their unique taste." Around 200 recipes are used in the SCHMIEDL bakery. A good portion of these are the carefully mixed pre-doughs, which together with the natural yeasts in the form of Lievito Madre and sourdough make the baked goods juicier, longer lasting and even tastier.
On the Hochmuth below Steinegg there is a viewing platform that looks like a stylised basket. This references the historically arduous life working the land on the steep slopes of the Muthof farms, where, with the help of winches, baskets of earth and manure were pulled up to the fields so that they could be cultivated again.
The viewing platform provides a breathtaking panoramic view of Merano and the Etsch Valley as well as the surrounding mountains. The platform is equipped with two telescopes and provides information on the mountains that can be seen from the Hochmuth, as well as on the cultivation of the steep fields of the Muthof farms in days gone by.

The Völlan Farming Museum is located in a beautiful annex of the vicarage that once housed fire wood, the laundry, a pigsty and the baking oven and nowadays impressively illustrates pre-industrial farm life to visitors.
In front of the entrance you can already see various sandstone vessels, baskets for piglets and other farming tools. The two-floor museum consists of four rooms. The first one presents an original living room and through clothes and everyday objects gives insights into a farmer's life in the 18th century.
Many utensils like a butter churn, a Keschtnriggl (a traditional chestnut basket), sausage presses and pasta machines are on display in the adjacent kitchen, whereas the next room presents tools of all kinds that mainly were hand-made by the farmers of the pre-industrial era.
Nothing is better than to learn from history by living it. That is the reason why the Farmer's Museum in Völlan not only is meant for grown-up visitors but for students and children too, because ultimately it gives us insights into the hard everyday life of times long past.
Here you get an impression of the huge diversity of tools a farmer would need and use back then. The upper floor houses tools and equipment for spinning and weaving like a loom, a reel, etc. The mill in the last room, however, originates from Oberinn on the river Ritten near the capital of Bolzano/Bozen.
Visit the new beach volley area next to the two miniature golf courses. There is also a kiosk which offers a generous selection of drinks and snacks.

Mathias Lamprecht operates a farmer's distillery at the Lahnerhof where he produces delicious fine distillates.
The farm buildings, which have protected monument status, date from the 12th century and have been owned by the Lamprecht family for over 100 years. Through careful restoration and renovation work, the former laundry room has been converted into today's distillery, in which Mathias Lamprecht produces single-variety spirits from the various fruits growing on the farm.
The historic walls radiate a sense of tradition and history, but above all when tasting the farm's own produce the maker's enthusiasm and warmth can be felt. By arrangement it is possible to undertake a guided tour of the distillery, and taste and buy the fine spirits. In addition there is also a large cellar that is available to use for celebrations.
