The "Culten" documentation centre on the church hill of S. Valburga/St. Walburg in the Ultental Valley is set to open its doors in Spring 2018. Divided into three sections,

• the first will house the proper documentation center illustrating ancient human activity in this habitat. Spanning the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, the Center will house a replica of a sacrificial altar. From the 6th Century BC onwards, the immediate area around the sacrificial site was found to be one of the most significant and largest repositories of human remains in the region.

• Built with logs in characteristic 15th Century style, the second section is centered around the old F'Hochhaus farmhouse. The building was inhabited well into the 20th Century at its original location before being carefully moved about 50 m and rebuilt in the new CULTEN Documentation Center. During the removal of the old farm building, historical objects such as coins, remnants of leather, dice and hairpins dating from its original construction were discovered in the layers of insulation. Of particular interest was a pack of 15th Century playing cards, thought to be the oldest know South Tyrolean examples of the traditional Wattkarten cards. The old farmhouse will also house temporary exhibitions.

• The third section is represented by the outdoor area, which has been cultivated with traditional crops of this region. The outdoor area invites you to linger and relax, as at the same time it forms the framework for smaller cultural events.

The outdoor pool in Lana is easy to find, and a camping ground is situated close enough to walk to. Brunnenburg Castle stands on a glacial debris cone between Dorf Tirol/Tirolo and Tyrol Castle. This truly unique-looking castle complex is said to be named after a nearby spring. The fortifications date from between 1241 and 1253. The remains of these fortifications also formed the basis of the restoration of the building. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Brunnenburg was restored in a very unusual manner. Today it is a cultural center and home of the South Tyrolean Agricultural museum.

Pears from Marlengo, stone pine from the Villandro Alp and pomace from the vineyards around Merano. Over the past 75 years, we have become experts in the art of distilling. Having brought this experience together with a sensitive touch and love for experiments, we create spirits that are overflowing with charisma. In 1947 Ignaz Unterthurner produced the first spirits in the Priami Manor in Marlengo. Stephan and his wife Renate have now brought our story into its third generation. We have modernised it with the greatest of sensitivity and care. Everything that we distil in the clear glass cube is available in our atmospheric vaulted shop. Our range counts over 60 spirits, in all categories: brandies, liqueurs, grappa, digestifs, gin and rum. We have not yet exhausted all the possibilities of distilling. We remain curious.

Georg Eller keeps his bees in untreated wooden beehives in Marlengo, Passeiertal Valley and Vinschgau Valley in order to obtain different kinds of honey. He only chooses organic treatments for maintaining their health, in that way the honey preserves its healthy and natural properties.

The traditional sport of the Alpine People

Ice stick shooting is as similar to curling, as skittles is to bowling. The technical differences are few, but while the latter have become popular sports around the globe, the former are celebrated in the Alpine countries as old traditions, just like fistfall and skittles.

Aside from the gymnasts and cyclists of Club Edelrot, the 'Eisschützen' (ice stick shooters) are the oldest sports club in Lana. Photographic archives prove that this winter sport has been popular in this area as far back as the late 18 hundreds, when the 'Fasslbinder' (coopers) from the Unterinntal Valley and the 'Eisenbahner' (railroaders) introduced ice stick shooting here in Lana. The 'Eisschützenverein Lana', which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008, is therefore one of the oldest ice stick shooter clubs in the country.

The practice location of the ice stick shooters is at the mouth of the Gola Canyon in Oberlana, which still today is the venue for local and regional ice stick shooting tournaments. Periodic meets, tournaments and festivities will ensure that this wonderful tradition will continue on into the future.
