    Esposizione "INTROJEKTION" by Gehard Demetz
    Sëlva/Selva, Dolomites Region Val Gardena
In just a few years, Gehard Demetz has risen to international prominence by applying his incredible craftsmanship as a traditional woodcarver to subjects that are new and appealing to contemporary viewers. His sculptures of children are at the same time attractive and disquieting and rendered with an amazing perfection that is by no means rhetorical or classical. One of the most startling technical features is the construction using small woodblocks and juxtaposing finely polished parts to very rough and sketchy surfaces. This particular construction and treatment render his sculptures absolutely unique in the domain of contemporary wood sculpture and is partly responsible for the great curiosity aroused by the appearance of his work in the art world. Since his debut in 2005, Gehard Demetz has been invited by prominent galleries to exhibit in the United States, Spain, Germany, Korea. He has also produced monumental sculptures on commission for collectors around the world.Born 1972, Bolzano. Lives and works in Selva di Val Gardena. Exhibition at Tublà da Nives Every day 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday also from 8:30 PM - 10:30 PM Closed on Monday

    EXPRESSIONS OF INTIMACY 2024
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
This year's exhibition by the Associazione degli Artisti della Provincia di Bolzano (Bolzano Provincial Artists' Association) at the City Gallery is entitled “Expressions of Interiority”. After several years in which the annual exhibition has offered unusual, experimental food for thought, the programme now features a seemingly more traditional theme, the portrait, which is understood here as an expression of inwardness and thus demands an introspection that, from time to time, stems from the soul, the consciousness, the spirit and finally advances to the unconscious and its split. In this light, the theme can appear very complex and can easily run the risk of drifting into banality. However, thanks to their expertise, the exhibiting artists manage to deliver completely unconventional interpretations. Portrait art, which emerged in the early Renaissance, was very popular for centuries and still offers important insights into the many facets of human diversity today. The anthropocentrism of the Renaissance led to an increase in the importance of the portrayed person, which became just as widespread as religious subjects. The self-portrait soon became a common practice. With it, the artists put themselves in the picture, thereby recognising, reflecting and analysing themselves. The participating artists have submitted very different works, both in terms of painting technique and interpretation, and their originality is sure to attract great interest.

Temporary exhibition / Glacier‘s end – A colourful study of our changing existen
Bruneck/Brunico, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
The exhibition showcases a targeted series of artworks from the past three years. Aesthetic forms and patterns of an entirely new and unknown world flow toward the critical awareness of climate change facing our planet. The brothers succeed in unleashing physical places into a rational realm of thought and transforming them into aesthetic settings through stylistic and colorful contrasts. What remains are surfaces, structures, and stylistic textures that take shape in the minds of viewers and ultimately transcend pure perception as a rational mechanism. Observation transforms into a solitary experience, becoming a privilege of seclusion, comparable to an exclusive dialogue between observers and the artwork itself. Sophie Olivotto (Art Historian)

Temporary exhibition / Markus Krottendorfer - Photopsia
Bruneck/Brunico, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
In the “Photopsia” exhibition—a term that describes a visual disturbance manifesting in the form of hallucinatory perceptions—, Krottendorfer ties together three different projects about fictions from the early modern age. “Mountains of Kong”—a mountain range in Africa which was included in maps of the world until the early 20th century despite the fact that it never existed, showcasing a colonial-era production of fictitious knowledge about Africa. “Point of View”—the Chinese cabinets of the Hofburg in Brixen/Bressanone and Neustift Abbey, bearing witness to a romanticized view of an imaginary “Orient” but also to the power coming from the depiction of the world. “Phantom of the Poles”—In 1906, William Reed published a book of the same name in which he postulates that there is another world located inside the Earth, perhaps even unknown civilizations—an early form of “alternative facts”? All three projects allow us to reflect on the role of photography in the space between reality and fiction, truth and fallacy in our very own present.

Temporary exhibition / Lukas Schäfer - The quiet
Bruneck/Brunico, Dolomites Region Kronplatz/Plan de Corones
Wind. The clouds, the sun, the moon. The stars. Water. Life. The quiet. Lukas Schäfer, born in 1992, hails from St.Georgen/San Giorgio in the Pustertal valley. He grew up between the Dolomites and the main ridge of the Alps. Even when he was a young child, his parents would show him the mountains. Ever since then, Lukas has been fascinated by nature, its landscapes, its details, and its animals. Lukas competed in professional freeskiing events before he got injured and discovered nature photography. He was immediately captivated. From that moment on, Lukas has rediscovered the mountains and their inhabitants time and time again with his camera. His passion would eventually turn into a profession. Some of his photographs and films have already won international awards. His debut book titled “Südtirol, Secrets of Nature” is a collection of photos and stories from South Tyrol and its border regions.

Art in Klausen - Lothar Dellago
    Klausen/Chiusa, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
Lothar Dellago: 70 years of sculpture The ‘Art in the Old Town’ project, which brings the works of well-known artists into the old town of Klausen, is growing steadily and will be displayed in 29 shop windows in the upper and lower town this autumn. The exhibition is a tribute to the sculptor Lothar Dellago and his 70 years of creative work. Dellago's sculptures - imbued with music - are dancers who sway their bodies to inaudible sounds and express an irrepressible joy in life, movement and mutual encounters. The players, on the other hand, appear almost static, portraying well-known figures from the world of music. Art arises from the imagination, but Dellago's work is above all mental labour: ‘I try to get to the heart of the matter with just a few strokes.’ His art is the condensation of the line on a smooth surface, the reduction of the narrative to the essentials: the essence of the line.

Permanent exhibition "Silent Forces of Everyday Life: folk belief"
Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures, Ahrntal/Valle Aurina
The special exhibition at Taufers Castle deals with the medieval theme of "popular belief", which combines religious aspects with superstition. Curated by Marie Rubner, it can be seen from March 29 to November 3, 2024.
The exhibition shows a view of the world that was influential until the Enlightenment and is still influential today. It does not judge, but provides insights into religious customs, rituals and the belief in otherworldly powers.
Popular belief sought to harness otherworldly powers in order to achieve safety, health and salvation.
The exhibition presents texts, exhibits and images, including unicorns, basilisks and thinkers.
Although it does not draw any conclusions, the exhibition opens our eyes to the importance of popular beliefs in society. It also shows how the focus on popular belief affects historical conflicts of faith.
It becomes clear that popular belief filled gaps in the Christian understanding of faith by turning to powers beyond. At the same time, the Catholic understanding of faith opposed pagan cults with sacramental alternatives.
A visit to the exhibition can reveal further insights and invites you to visit several times.

PAST FOOD - 15.000 YEARS OF NUTRITION
    Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs
Special exhibition at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology Hunger is the best cook, 15,000 years ago as well as today. The special exhibition takes a look at the menu of our ancestors: the origin, preparation and preservation of food as well as the equipment used for this. A special focus is placed on local eating habits and regional archaeological finds. In addition to cultural-historical aspects, the multifaceted exhibition shows that our ancestors were never at a loss for an idea to satisfy their hunger and ensure that their food supplies lasted. Foods such as meat and fish, wild grains, wild fruits and honey were known from the very beginning. Other foods that we take for granted today, such as pulses, spices and cereals, were only brought to Europe by migratory movements in the course of human history. Food traditions that we are familiar with today, such as the processing of milk or the cultivation of wine, were introduced from the Mediterranean region at various times. Enjoy your meal! Let us invite you into the culinary world of food history.
