For the first time since their opening in 2001, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are opening their doors in the winter months for a magical attraction: The LUMAGICA Park of Lights, South Tyrol's only park of its kind, will open its doors on 21.11.2024 and take visitors on an incredible journey through the fascinating worlds of the botanical gardens. The LUMAGICA Light Park is more than just a light installation - it is a tribute to the beauty of nature and the diversity of life. Each handcrafted light installation has been carefully designed to reflect the unique themes and atmospheres of the botanical garden and enchant visitors of all ages.

Snow does not always appear pure white, at least not to the attentive gaze of two painters like Alfons Walde or Max von Esterle. In his paintings, von Esterle poetically celebrates the magic of snow, while Walde - a little later - does so with concise expressiveness. This is the first time that these two important painters appear together in an exhibition. Alongside theirs, there are also snow-covered landscapes by other contemporary Italian and Austrian artists. All of these paintings create a variegated fabric that, unravelling, creates an unmissable spectacle. In the exhibition, of course, exponents of the art of our time with their abstract compositions or thought-provoking installations have not been left out. At the conclusion of the exhibition, in fact, at a time of climate change, a question about the ‘future of snow’ could not be left out: how much longer will we be able to enjoy this spectacle? Guest showcase by Lisa Settari. In this exhibition, Lisa Settari offers insights into her master's thesis on the coming-out narratives of women who love women in South Tyrol's recent history. The work is based on twenty oral history interviews that Lisa Settari was allowed to conduct with ten women-loving women. Thanks to these oral sources and a focus on women's, gender and queer history, the existing historiography of South Tyrol can be both enriched and critically scrutinised. Lisa Settari: born 1994 in Merano, Bachelor in Political Science, Master in European Women's and Gender History, currently lecturer at the ‘Alexandru Ioan Cuza’ University in Iași (Romania).

The project, proposed by the Passirio Merano association and the city of Merano in collaboration with the Merano Women's Museum, shows a selection of photographs, printed using fine art techniques, taken during a long journey by the author through seven Asian countries (Thailand, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran) with the declared aim of documenting the situation of women.

The Ötzi Glacier Tour is an extremely varied one day round tour, which crosses the main chain oft the Alps. It takes place every Tuesday and upon request. The undisputed highlight of this accompanied glacier skitour is the discovery site of Ötzi the Iceman (3,210 m). Starting from Kurzras. From there we will travel by cable car to the Grawand mountain terminal (3,100 m./10,170 ft.), the actual starting point of our tour. From there, we will travel over the Hochjochferner (2,800 m / 9,186 ft.) to the Schwarze Wand and on to the Hauslabjoch (3,280 m./ 10,761 ft.) We will then descend to the Tisenjoch (3,210 m. /10,532 ft.), the site where Ötzi was discovered. After a brief stop, we will ascend to the Hauslabjoch and descend into the Hochjoch Valley and continue down the valley to Kurzras. With suitable snow conditions, the course of the tour may change after the site where Ötzi was discovered: descent past the Similaun Refuge (3,019 m / 9,905 ft.) and through the Tisen Valley to Vernagt am See. Return to Kurzras. Requirements and conditions of participation: change in elevation ↑ approx. 600 m (1,969 ft.), ↓ approx. 2,100 m (6,890 ft.); duration: approx. 7 hours; basic physical condition; good parallel skiing ability (ski tour experience not necessary).

Accompanied by our mountain guide, we head from the Mastaun farmstead (1,640 m) along the stream into the Mastaun valley. After passing the Mastaun alpine hut (1,810 m), the tour heads into the rear part of the valley up to an altitude of approximately 2,000 m. During a pleasant rest, you can enjoy the tranquillity of nature and the quiet winter idyll. Afterwards, you return to the meeting point. Walking time: approx. 4-5 hours including breaks.
