My favorite herb is the bedstraw. And the meadowsweet. Oh yes, and the ground ivy. Of course, the masterwort should not be missing from this list. Never mind. I love them all. The enormous healing powers impress me just as much as the unique beauty of them. No matter how similar each bloom, flower and leaf is, they always are different and unique. As an FNL herbal expert, book author and naturopath, I deal with herbs and everything that goes with them often and for a long time (and often for a very, very long time). These are not only the botanical names, the family affiliation and the ingredients, but also the doctrine of signatures. This means, among other things, that you can deduce the effect and use of the plants from their appearance. The success-filled story of one of South Tyrol's best-known companies sounds like a fairy tale. Once upon a time ... about 50 years ago, a married couple decided to turn their dreams into reality.
So began this fairy tale that, far from being over, shows us today a company that produces highly successful ceramic giftware, porcelain tableware and tiled stoves.

Cozy, well almost contemplative – that’s the best way to describe the ambience at the Ritten Christmas Market, the Christmas Train Market “Christbahnl”. The snow falls softly from the sky, Christmas carols gently jingle across the square and a fragrance of freshly baked goodies fills the winter air.

Covelano White Marble originates from one of highest active marble quarries in Europe, at an altitude of 2,200 metres. The marble factory in Silandro/Schlanders: precision, innovative force, worldwide sales, and marble workshop.

The Weltladen Schlern is located near the centre of Castelrotto and is run by volunteers from the surrounding area. It is the youngest among the 16 World Shops in South Tyrol and opened its doors in November 2019. As the Weltladen Schlern is a branch of the Weltladen Klausen, there is a close cooperation between the two shops. The concept of the shop is to support disadvantaged producers in the Global South through fair working conditions, wages and social projects instead of exploiting them in the current economic system. Imported food, cosmetics and handicrafts that can be bought in the shop are all Fair Trade certified. Selected South Tyrolean products offered in the shop promote small regional cycles and strengthen small-scale farmers.

The woodcarver is a traditional craftsman who can carve figures and other objects out of wood. In Castelrotto there are woodcarvers who master their craft. They use traditional wood cutting tools such as saw, plane, file and carving knife. With their handicraft techniques they create unique works of art, made of the best wood. Different traditions and techniques form the basis for a variety of interesting figures and objects. Often the objects are sold as souvenirs, decorations or as gifts.

Monika Lovo, a native of Villnöss valley and a passionate needleworker, crochets warm hats from the wool of the sheep "Villnösser Brillenschaf". In pure natural colours and lined with cotton jersey, they keep the head warm and protected from the wind. Monika is happy to show interested guests how these original caps and beanie's are made during a demonstration in the respective accommodation. The caps are available for purchase in local businesses in the valley, including Vontavon & Niederstätter, Restaurant Pitzock and Naturwoll.

Thanks to its diverse and distinctive natural and cultural landscape, the Schnalstal Valley is one of the most fascinating valleys in the entire Alps. The discovery of Ötzi, the glacier mummy, and the annual driving of sheep – the transhumance - over the main ridge of the Alps, are proof that hunters and shepherds have been travelling through the Schnalstal Valley for thousands of years. The wool in these slippers (potsch) comes only from Schnals mountain sheep, which are perfectly suited to life in this Alpine region. The felt is made in one of the most prestigious loden and felt factories in South Tyrol. The wool in these felt slippers has proven itself, for example, through optimum thermal balance and tremendous durability. The ipotsch product are warranted for hand made, ecologic and etic production. The slippers "ipotsch" are available in the tourism office a Certosa/Karthaus.

The company Reichegger produces wood carvings sculptures, sacred and profane art and sculptures, high quality. The wooden sculptures from Falzes are small, precious works of art.
