Along the route, 9 stations provide fascinating insights into the village of Welschnofen | Nova Levante, its history and traditions, as well as the natural surroundings of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fifth and final stage of the Perlen Loop Trail takes you from Deutschnofen down into the valley to Kardaun, offering a varied route full of natural beauty and cultural charm. Along the way, you pass picturesque villages such as St. Veit and Karneid, enjoying stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The route first leads along the foot of the Latemar through the Latemar forest, famous for its valuable resonance wood used in instrument making, until you reach the emerald-green Lake Carezza. Along the way, you pass the Mittersee | Lago di Mezzo, which is visible only for a short time in May and June and turns into a meadow for the rest of the year. From Lake Carezza, the hike continues across the suspension bridge, built in 2018 and now one of the highlights of Karersee | Carezza. The path then leads to the wide Frin meadows, where an impressive 360° panorama of the Rosengarten | Catinaccio and Latemar awaits. Surrounded by unspoiled nature, the unique tranquility invites you to pause, relax, and recharge. From the hut’s sunny terrace, you can enjoy the impressive panorama of the mighty Rotwand | Roda di Vael, which is especially popular with climbers.
This hike leads from Welschnofen | Nova Levante via the "Plun" hill up to the Stadl Alm farm and then continues on to Lake Carezza. The section between Welschnofen | Nova Levante and the Stadl Alm is a bit steep, but once you arrive at the Stadl Alm farm, you are rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of idyllic alpine meadows and the two Dolomite giants, Rosengarten | Catinaccio and Latemar. At the Stadl Alm farm, you can relax on the sunny terrace and enjoy delicious homemade specialties. The final destination of the route is Lake Carezza, considered one of the most magnificent alpine lakes, especially famous for its deep green water and the stunning mountain backdrop.
In August 1897, Empress Elisabeth of Austria – better known as Sissi – spent an extended holiday at the historic Grand Hotel Karersee. During her stay, she took numerous excursions into the idyllic surroundings, one of which led her along the very path that now bears her name: the Elisabeth Promenade. This historic walking trail, complete with a commemorative monument, stands as a tribute to the Empress’s love of nature and hiking. Even today, it invites visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the stunning landscape around Lake Carezza (Karer See | Lago di Carezza).
This stage takes you through one of the most iconic landscapes of the Dolomites. Right at the beginning, you'll encounter Lake Carezza, a deep blue mountain lake that, with the rugged peaks of the Latemar in the background, appears as a gem in the landscape. From there, you'll traverse dense coniferous forests and alpine meadows that provide an impressive panorama, which will accompany you all the way to Obereggen.

Right at the beginning you follow the Rittersteig Trail and pass by the quirky Rocket Treehouse– a real eye-catcher that fascinates not only children. If you like, you can also take a short detour to the cave dwelling Mortner Gufl, just 15 minutes off the main route, mysteriously built into the rock.
The trail then leads mostly through forests before climbing a little more steeply on trail [11] to the Wiedenhof farm inn. Here you can enjoy a cosy stop with regional specialities, and children will love the small petting zoo.
Refreshed, you continue gently along trail [8] back to Steinegg|Collepietra, where the loop closes. A hike that perfectly combines nature, history and South Tyrolean pleasures.

During this period, a meadow transforms into a lake filled with icy meltwater at just 8°C. By July, however, it usually disappears without a trace. As long as it is there, the Mittersee | Lago di Mezzo is considered a true natural spectacle and an insider tip. The bravest even dare to jump into the refreshing water or take a little ride on the raft. This family-friendly hike not only leads to the mysterious Mittersee | Lago di Mezzo, but also to the famous Lake Carezza and the suspension bridge – with magnificent views of the Rosengarten | Catinaccio and Latemar mountains along the way.

From Steinegg|Collepietra, the historic Rittersteig trail leads you right at the start past the rocket treehouse– an original structure that fascinates not only children.
You then immerse yourself in the tranquillity of conifer and deciduous forests, following paths that in places require good surefootedness, until you reach the first vineyards of the lower Eggental valley. Along the way, views open up over the Eisack|Isarco Valley and the striking Castle of Karneid in the distance.
Passing through the picturesque village of Karneid|Cornedo, you skirt the castle from afar before finally reaching Kardaun|Cardano, the gateway to the provincial capital of Bozen|Bolzano.
The tour can also be done in the opposite direction and is especially popular with uphill runners as a training route.
Please note: There are no refreshment stops along the entire route. At the starting point in Steinegg|Collepietra, you’ll find several restaurants, cafés and two village shops; at the end point in Kardaun|Cardano, there’s a café and two restaurants.
