The starting point lies on the pass road just a half kilometer before arriving to the Penser Joch pass. Along the trail 14 you will arrive to the Jaufental joke and the Gospeneid joke and get along the crest to the southern Zinseler summit side (2421m). Suitable for sunrise tours. This easy to moderate circular trail starts in die Sportsarea Grube and goes through the Pfitschtal Alpine valley at the foot of the Zillertal Alps in two loops, and is a real insiders' tip due to its idyllic location and guaranteed snow. The trail is perfect for both classic and skating-style cross-country skiing and is prepared daily.
Start by the Penserjoch joke and take the trail 14B along the crest. After the Astenberg summits follow the trail 14A to the junction Tatschspitze and Tagewaldhorn. Take the trail 13A first and pass down the Traminner Scharte and the Tagewaldhorn on trail 13. You will arrive to the Flagger lake (2473m) and the Marburger mountain hut. Here starts the ascent to the summit (2.739m) on trail 13B on steepy terrain and scree underground. One steep climb is secured with a steel rope. Difficult ski tour to the Telfer Weissen mountain summit. Start by the Rosskopf mountain station to the Sterzingerhaus mountain hut and furtheron to the Vallming alpine village. Along the valley in direction to the crest, passing by a weather cross until the eastern summit. On feet over the jag to the main summit (2565m). Pickaxe and crampons recommended! On a mountain range on the border between South Tyrol and Austria, the Rotbachspitze lies far above the Pfitchscherjoch and is in the catchment area of several classic ski tours.
The Rosskopf sledging track at Sterzing / Vipiteno is the longest floodlit and artificial snow covered tobbogan sledging track in Italy. The toboggan run leads through an impressive forest landscape, covering over 900 meters in elevation. It starts right by the Rosskopf cable car mountain station and runs for nearly 10 km round many twists and turns down to the valley station in Vipiteno/Sterzing.
Sleds can be rented directly and easily at the Outdoor Center - no reservation is necessary.
Please note: Helmets are mandatory for children! In addition, sturdy footwear is essential for a safe sledding experience!
Why not join a night-time sledging party on Friday evenings for a special experience on Sterzings local mountain. On these evenings the sledging trail is floodlit until midnight (cable car runs until 10 pm).
Welfenstein is a castle in South Tyrol between Trens and Mauls in the municipality of Freienfeld near Sterzing. It is located in the Wipptal on the orographic left side of the Eisack river.
The castle can be visited only from outside.
Follow the trail 14B along the crest by the Penserjoch pass. Passing the Astenberg and along trail 14A to the junction to the Tatschspitze. Take the trail 13A in direction Tagewaldhorn. Passing down the summit on trail 13 and follow the trail to the Flagger lake and the Flaggerscharte mountain hut (2482m, also called Marburger Hütte). The hike along the Via Crucis leads along religious stations from Stilves villages through the shadows of the forest to Bad Moeders, an old mineral spring with an adjacent chapel. The tranquility of the forest along the trail leads to a profound contemplation.

The church is consecrated to St. Petrus and the earliest recorded mention of the building dates back to the start of the 13th century. The ceiling frescoes were painted by Christoph Brandstätter and combine with the interior of the church to produce a remarkable example of a room dating from the late Baroque or Classical period. Open all day long.

By the junction along trail 13A upwards to the Traminner Scharte jag (2381m) and further on trail 15A on the northwestern ridge of the summit and on stony terrain up to the Tagewaldhorn peak (2706m). Start by the Penserjoch pass and along trail 14B along the crest, over the Astberg summit and further on 14A to the junction to the Tatschspitze summit. Stay on trail 14A and follow the ascent to the Puntleider joke (2465m). Steep descent to the lake (1850m). Along trail 14 to the Puntleidersee pasture and descent to valley to the Le Cave/Grasstein hamlet (return with bus 310 to Vipiteno/Sterzing).
The Maria Trens circular hiking trail connects the sanctuary with the nearby Sprechenstein castle. The trail goes along the forest hillside to the Sprechenstein rock, where you will find a nice panoramic view over the valley bottom. The return to the Maria Trens sanctuary goes along the old pilgrimage trail.
The round trail Gaismair is about 15 kilometers long in a range from 950 to 1200 m above sea level and it runs through and around the town of Sterzing. On the path there are short steep and uneven passages and therefore some segments are not very suitable for strollers. Along the trail lies the village of Tschöfs, where the farmer's son Michael Gaismair was born in 1490. He studied law and stood up for the rights of the farmer population during the peasant uprisings.
By the Puntleid farms near Le Cave follow the trail 14 upwards through steep forest to the Puntleider See Alm shelter. Passing by the pasture always on trail 14 on easy trail to the Puntleider See lake (1850m). Lunch possibility: Puntleidersee Alm.
Follow the trail 12A by the pass to the Penserjoch lake. Turn right and follow the ascent to the Gänsekragen summit (2322m). Descent on the eastern crest side to the Penserjoch pass. Lunch possibility: Gasthof Alpenrosenhof, Penserjoch Alm
Starting point: mountain station Rosskopf Monte Cavallo (1.860m)
The cable car Rosskopf Monte Cavallo (valley station near the north park in Vipiteno) takes you to the leisure mountain. From the mountain station follow the marked trail no. 19 until you reach the Sterzinger Haus, which is situated above the mountain station.
Alternative: by foot to the Rosskopf Monte Cavallo: starting from the valley station of the cable car Rosskopf Monte Cavallo, follow path no. 19 or no. 23. Continue through a shady forest over serpentines and further on to the mountain station. From there follow path no. 24 uphill to the mountain hut Sterzinger Haus.
